The end was VERY VERY drawn out, Peter Jackson 3 or 4 times made really long black fade in and outs out of scenes as one would expect for the credits to start rolling at the end, but it was just the next scene. It really irritated and wished they would have ended the movie diffrently and without the slow moving dramatical pauses and such. A person at the movies even screamed out "Thank You" for it finally being over because I was not the only one whose arse was hurting and wanting it to end.

Girlscout.

Great movie with great special effects....but for the LOVE OF GOD they could have easily taken out an hour and nothing would have been missed...the start of the movie was too long and the ending was at least 30 minutes too long. At the showing that I went too, people also yelled out "thank you" when it finally ended...
Overall, great movie, but terrible editing...should have been 45-60 minutes shorter!

I've heard the original theater cut was over 4 hours long! So imagine what the extended version will be like. As far as the multiple endings, remember the book had 100+ pages of epilogues.. I think that's what Jackson was trying to show. IMO great movie, great trilogy. Still, the extended version of Fellowship is my favorite.

This is going to be awesome. Imagine: one day you decide to be in the mood for an epic. Invite tons of friends over and play all three extended versions. The ultimate movie marathon! Ohh.... *shudder*
Ryan's already ordered Fellowship and TT extended. (yay. i get to benefit from something I didn't pay for.) Can't wait until ROTK extended comes out.
Start the movies at like 5 pm and stay up all night until like 10 in the morning... ohhh sweet.

Just got back from my third time seeing this in a week baby!
1st time: 12:01AM showing Wednesday Dec. 17. 2003
2nd time: Friday Dec. 19
3rd time: Thursday Dec. 25
3rd time it was still good, I won't go again though..lol 3rd time's a charm.
I swear, my Gollum impression is getting better everyday...I find myself inadvertedly saying "my prrrrecious" every now and then...maybe I should seek help..hahahahaha

My feeling about ROTK was that it felt actually kind of rushed. I wished there was more material in there to almost slow it down. My only criticism of it was how fast they went from the Battle of Pelennor Fields to the Black Gates. I think they could have used some more time to show Frodo and Sam's struggle, but I guess that's something us book fans would want, hence the Extended Edition.
I think Peter Jackson's structure of the ending was definitely a tribute to the fans of the books. I think that that was definitely one of the few times in the theatrical editions he favored those who have read the book previously over those who haven't. Also, I think it was also to make amends for cutting the Scouring of the Shire (which was a wise choice, IMO).
I have only seen it twice so far. I'll probably go one more time with a friend of mine who hasn't seen it, and another with my parents. It's strange, but I actually want to see this movie less than I have the first two, because it's my favorite. I think it was such an emotional film, and I got so engrossed in it the first time, I don't want that to get diluted with every viewing, so I think I'm going to limit myself.
