so his reasoning is that it's safer for him to hold his one month old son a meter away from a crocodile than to drive with his son in a car, because he is in control. He's not in any more control of that croc than he would be of another driver. he could react, but the situation could still easily be fatal. you see a car careening towards you, you react and slam on the brakes. you see a crocodile lunge at you, you react and move away. His kid wasn't any safer with him by the croc than he would be in a car; instead the kid was probably in more danger. Wild animals are DANGEROUS. captive bears attack their owners, elephants in circus' attack people, tigers bite their instructors, blah blah blah. if it's dangerous to drive a car, like he said, why do something ELSE dangerous, especially for millions of people to see and react to?

I dunno, if my father told me today that he was holding me while he was feeding a crocodile, I would find it kind of cool. but then, I'm also kind of twisted . . .

Why do we not get upset when someone crosses a busy street with a child in their arms? When you do that, you are dealing with many drivers you have never even met.

People were saying that Bob could have gotten hurt if Steve fell. There is a very good chance a child could get hurt if his mom fell while crossing a street. People are getting so upset because crocs are seen as monsters and people don't know anything about them except the big teeth.

Holding him I suppose wasn't that bad but did you see on the news clip when he was making his son "walk" infront of it?

True, and you simply cannot have an opinion on this unless you have children. I'm not saying that in a negative way towards those that don't. My point is that you just simply cannot understand how important thier safety is until you hold one of your own.

The man has a right to do what he wants with his children (In America I bet child services would have something to say about that). But I can honestly say he was placing that child in a very dangerous situation and thier was no need nor explanation for it.

His son was even safer at that point. The croc was 30-40 feet away in a clear body of water.

Like I have said before, you place your child in just as dangerous of a situation(if not more) every time you put them in a car. People say "oh, but we HAVE to put them in a car." Wrong, get a baby sitter, nanny etc and just let your kid stay at home 24x7 so they will be safe.

Growing up, we had to learn to look both ways crossing the street. Steve's kids don't have to worry so much about cars, they have to learn about crocs.

There is some degree of danger inherent in any activity. To make a similie with The Croc Hunter's actions and every-day situations is obstinate. A crocodile is equivical to a bear trap with a brain, a very small brain at that. In fact, one of the most primitive forms of brain in existance. It's akin to a machine, slightly more intelligent than an insect. With that said, and since we're on the subject of analogies, should a gun-expert sharp-shooter expose his small child to firearms? Should an explosives expert, captain of the bomb squad take his child to watch him diffuse explosives? Of course not. These things are dangerous, as are crocodiles. You can go on about how children are statistically more likely to die in an automobile accident, but does that make them impervious to a crocodiles teeth and the ridiculous pounds per square inch of pressure applied by its jaws? No, and neither would the fact that they're being held by an expert. Just as the presence of an expert won't shield them from stray bullets, an explosion, anything.
