Lcd, Crt, Hdtv
I have some questions.... I've been sporting an 17" Samsung LCD for the last 2 years.... It's been great but i'm looking for something a bit larger. I've also been wanting to get rid of my old TV.... think it's around 32" but its been abused:
1. Has had a 'heat warp' bubble on the very top (sat next to something REALLY hot, while being flown off the carrier via H-53)
2. Cable bracket was snapped off by a Charter contractor. Meaing if i move the TV for cleaning i have to give it the ole "reach around" and play with the coax cable so the 'volume will return'
So i was considering getting something dual purpose. I'd like to game and start a small multi-media station with a DDR setup. I've been mulling the idea of an 26" HDTV LCD. I dont have the the funds to get something larger also I'd rather have it portable than mounted on a wall (needing a 2 person lift).
Certain people tell me that the quality of this 26" Tv will be less than what, i get with my current LCD. Others tell me that yea the image might be 'streached' since its a being displayed on a larger surface, it's quality non the less will be "awesome".
Currently the game i play now (BF2) isn't supported for widescreen but i'm thinking of the future and wondering if games will soon have this ability/function?
Looking for any first hand experiences..

I have an Olevia 37 inch and I'm happy with it. Got it during a Thanksgiving day sale, $1499 sale price, then a $300 Olevia rebate. So, $1199 for it total. Anyway, the TV is nice, some people have problems, some don't, like any other manufacturer.
I haven't used it for gaming though. It has a VGA port and an HDMI port which can be used with a DVI to HDMI cable for computer gaming I suppose.

Do searches on this forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=40
Search for your model number and 'gaming' and you will probably find something. This is a pretty hardcore forum, I spent some time on it for a week or two before I got my TV.

A CRT monitor is great, but for dual use (as a TV too) there's one problem: getting a 26" monitor is bit rough. Anything beyond 19" gets expensive and *heavy/bulky*
I don't know if I've even seen monitors that were 26". I've seen tube based HDTVs that are that big though.

The future is not now. Wait awhile. Get a 19 inch Lcd or something for the next year or so, there getting REAL cheap now.
Maybe a viewsonic 27/ 32 inch, those have been dropping in prices, due to newer models... if you REALLY want one thing to do two jobs.
Also note that ALL Lcd/ hdtvs have a MAX refreshrate of 60, which is horrid for the eye's. I have a 50 inch DLP HL-R5064 from last august, and it already has problems. None the less, it doubles as a computer monitor, HL2, Quake 4, Call of Duty 2 and some other look REALLY GOOD. But then again, the ones that don't ACTUALLY support the 16 by 9, no matter how big/ small, it just does not feel right while playing. Also the 720p videos of all the Ps3/ next gen stuff looks REALLY good, 720p and what not.
Save your money, its only 06... or don't? But good choice non the less, just dont OVERPAY. Look around,Pricegrabbers and what not.
