Good FTP software....

Postby Murgatroyd » Sat Feb 21, 2004 10:25 am

I'm looking for some decent FTP software, preforably free. I'm currently using SmartFTP http://www.smartftp.com and it works pretty well, but I was wondering if there was anything better out there.

FTP Explorer is ok. It is prone to crash at annoying times, however.

I use FlashFXP myself...it's shareware but there are ways around it. :)

filezilla works nicely and completely free.

Server, client, or both?

SmartFTP is definitely the best IMO.

Client. I'm doing some uber-geek stuff on a Linux server <cough>writing a MUD<cough> and I do my editing in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, then FTP it to the server and compile it with gcc.

Yeah, I like it alot, but I wasn't sure if there was anything else out there. I do quite a bit of queueing files because it's code in different files that I need to compile all at once, and SmartFTP was the best I could find in that regard. Just wasn't sure if I was missing anything.

FTP Voyager. They also make Serv-U FTP server, and you can have encrypted password and encrypted data between the two.

By the way Mulgatroyd, try Ultra-Edit, it's a text editor that has a nifty "Load from FTP" and "Save to FTP" option. You load the file, edit it, and the Save command uploads it back.
