N.Y. Ministers Charged for Marrying Gays
(AP) - Two ministers were charged with criminal offenses Monday for marrying 13 gay couples in what is believed to be the first time in the United States that clergy members have been prosecuted for performing same-sex ceremonies. District Attorney Donald Williams said gay marriage laws make no distinction between public officials and members of the clergy who preside over wedding ceremonies.

How can this country be so unwilling to change?

I am not gay but i am saying that these people are being treated like SECOND CLASS CITIZENS that have no rights... :(

And the people who help them get charged also?

sheesh...

Why is america so :freak: ?

Fear, not the bible. They just use the bible as an excuse to hide their fear.

What do you expect from a country which was drawn up with the premise that you didn't classify as human unless you were white Anglo-Saxon and protestant? Tolerance, I think not.

Marriage is not a right. It is a religious ceremony. And in the bible it says that only one man and one woman should be married.

Gay rights is a sham. Why should they be granted anything special for the behavior they choose to follow? Anything to do with sex is a CHOICE. Being black is not a choice. Being female is not a choice. But gay people would have you believe it is not a choice with them either. BULLSHIT.

It's very simple: don't be gay... what defines you as gay? Having sex with someone of the same gender. How does one avoid being gay? DON'T DO THAT. It's not that complex of a concept.

And as far as them needing rights of some kind? What rights don't they have? As americans they have every protection under the law that I have. What are they being denied? They are persecuted? Last time I checked, freedom of speech and ideas carried a price: you are free to say and think what you wish, but you still must face the consequences of those words and thoughts. Since most people disagree with being gay for a variety of reasons, following that line of thought leads to a lot of people NOT liking you.

Trying to tell someone to like you forcibly for a choice you made is just as bad as censorship IMO.

These people have no leg to stand on, and the majority know it. I don't care what's in the newspapers. They made the choice to be gay, now live with the consequences.

I'd love to see you prove that it is a choice, as opposed to something one is born with. Why would someone CHOOSE something that would put them under immense pressure and discrimination?

Where? I'd like the quotation please. It's not that I don't believe you , it probably does say that, but if you are going to cite the bible to back up your argument I'd at least like proof, not hearsay.

Did you make the choice to be a bigot, or was it just something you were born into?

I'd like to see proof that it is something people are born with.

My basis for this is that I have seen or heard many instances of people that had heterosexual relationships for most of their lives, and then decided they were gay. So, were they gay before they thought they were? Was it just latent? How did they know? My conclusion is it was a decision on their part. They could have decided to still have heterosexual relationships, but they decided not to. ANYTHING to do with sex is a choice, abstinence, hetero, homo, S&M, etc.

Hmm, random house dictonary lists a bigot as:

a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

I'll tolerate them. They can go suck each others' cocks all they want, it doesn't effect me. But when they start petitioning the government for things, that does concern me, since I'm a citizen with a vote.

And all I said was that they are full of shit, not that they shouldn't have any rights. But, that is the price for my opinions, many people will label me as intolerant and a homophobe and what have you. Fine. I can live with that.

But I have clear reasons for my opinions, and you have yet to contribute anything to the discussion other than name-calling. If I'm wrong, show me. I'll read it, but name-calling just shows you have nothing to discuss.

I never said I could prove either way, but I would like you to post serious proof that it is a choice, and only a choice.

The basis for my argument is that homosexuality as a choice would be illogical and defy human nature (hormones). Also, I know several people who have been homosexual as long as they can remember, and heterosexuality was never even a thought to them. Did these people just decide to be gay before they went through puberty and developed mature hormones? I don't think so.

Of course, I can't prove this, but at least I admit it...

I think it's a birth defect for some and a coice of lifestyle for others.

How about I just throw a few quotations at you two see if you recognise any of them. It'll be fun.

'Love your neighbour as you love yourself'

'Judge not lest ye be judged'

'Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone'

'Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness'

Aside from this wrist the above article is not about gays pettitioning congress but about the government chargong people with criminal charges for allowing others to 'express' themselves in the manner which they saw fit. In addition the idea that gays are allowed all the rights of heterosexual couples is bullshit when you don't allow them to marry and take the tax breaks and perks that marriage brings.
Of course homosexuality is down to choice, like eating is, you can chose to starve but what kind of a life is that. It seems to me that if you really were as open minded as you claim to be then you wouldn't be worried about the issue of gay marriage, not enough to post here about how it's all their fault anyway./
