What was the option you chose to educate them?

Did anyone see last weeks South Park? I know it's an odd place to get social commentary, but I think it addressed this issue fairly well.

I HEAR YA HAVOC!

but you forgot one thing for any of these people that have young daughters hell f**k it young sons too, do away with the child laws and have sex both male & female with all the cute little 6 year olds we see. There old enough according to the publisher of that king & king book to understand.

How would you like to see some 25 year old whos coaching peewee football F**king your little johnny after practice.

I not naive just extremely enlightened, If you dont talk to your kids daily then your a worthless parent and should be shot and have the state raise them because they couldnt do any worse. Bit extreme yes but it clearly show my stand point.

Next, I know exactly what my kids do because they trust me when shit happens they let me know and i talk to them about it.

What I dont want is this flit bombarding them everywhere they look and go.

Theres a fine line where everyone's concerns are at, this type of stuff favors one side, like that link about the gay king.

WTF is that, I'd kicked the shit out of the teacher that put that book into my kids hand at that young again. Thats crossing that grey line. I will decide when it's time for my kids to learn about these types of issues and not by you or anyone else.

Does this post seem alittle extreme maybe, but when I hear idiots talking about this shit and then try to explain to me that its ok I get livid. I got 2 kids and a 3rd on the way do you think I want them learning about gays, sex, and alot of other adult issues while there in grade school.

Tougher question do you want some idiot teaching YOUR KIDS about these issues and impressing upon them THEIR views on YOUR KIDS. If you do please do us parents that do care a favor and DONT HAVE ANY KIDS!

Man, you guys missed the point. I'm not opposed to limitations on curse words (the "7") on television during prime time. In fact, if someone came out and said "We're going to be as vulgar as we want on television 24-7", I'd strongly disagree, and in fact, I would boycott television until they reversed that decision.

Now, claiming that they're limiting vulgar language from broadcast as some sort of mission for god is another thing.

I have a six-year-old daughter, and I've had many conversations with her about swearing. Most recently, she informed me that there were kids in her school who swore all the time. I taught her that swearing is inappropriate for children, but can be used by adults in certain situations, which is the truth. Kids are going to be exposed to swearing unless you live in a cave and don't let them venture into the outside world... but I digress.

Claiming that they're doing it to protect god's divinity is abhorrent - this is a government agency we're talking about here, a government agency which has the power to monitor and PREVENT TRANSMISSION of broadcasts which they deem "inappropriate".

So does this mean that I can't go on television and say that there is no god? Would that be "inappropriate" - after all they are trying to protect god's divinity. Can I go on TV and talk about another religion? Or would that be challenging god's divinity too? Can I go on the radio and say that I don't like our current president? Or would that be "inappropriate", or will they wait until I say something that could be construed as inappropriate and yank me off the air in no time? Guess what, it's already happening.

Do you want to give the government the power to say what can and cannot be broadcast? Because that's what is happening. Who knows, in the near future, maybe even this post would be intercepted by the FCC and prevented.

Look how well moral police work in the middle east. Do you want to live there? Or is it not okay over there because it's not your religion?

We're losing our freedom, guys - under the disguise of virtue.

Exactly........

Kids hear shit that is TEN TIMES worse all day at school
than what they hear on any radio or TV show

Letting the government regulate what we can hear and say
based on what a few religious idiots think is ok is dangerous

You guys would keep arguing this point, in the meantime
we are steadilly losing our rights one small piece at a time
until one day we wake up and see we have lost many of
the freedoms that we have fought and some have died for

Those who dont get this point are probably "Anti Gun" as well

I applaud Murg and ballbuster's posts!

Hit the issue right on the button...(and no bush beating either :P )

However, I also see where Fat Bastard and Havoc are coming from...

You don't want to corrupt children TOO much, or they will turn out like some of my classmates...

And they are quite :freak:

I come from Eastern Europe. In fact I lived in Communism for 10 yrs. I know first hand whats it like to not have freedoms. FCC is doing just that.

Remeber this freedom is choice. FCC removing Howard Stern from the airwaves is the restriction of freedom in my view.

Here is the kicker though. All you people think oh well its Howard Stern. Whoopty doooo, he only talks about strippers and anal sex and is disgusting. But if they can do what they just did to a NATIONAL RADIO SHOW. Just think what is next.

As what I said Bush currently has 10,000% of control over FCC through Dick Cheney.

Havoc: what should be shown you ask? let the consumer decide. it could work in my utopian world. :)

But hearing it on the radio and t.v. gives the impression that it is ok which it is not.

Ok didnt mean to blow up but from the first couple post it seems as if people were viewing this as acceptable. But the reason alot of kids say this stuff in school is because they hear it on the radio and tv. Have to start somewhere to correct it.

I agree - but it's not the role of the government.

I have talks often with my daughter about swearing and "bad words", and she knows not to say them. If something raunchy or vulgar comes on the television or radio when she's present, I change the channel. Otherwise, I explain things to her about what should and should not be said, and why children shouldn't say such things.

In fact, when I slip and swear in front of her, she yells at me! I was on the highway and someone cut me off, and I called them an a-hole. She says "Daddy! You shouldn't say bad words!", I said "I'm sorry, but that person really made me mad." and she says "That's okay if you said it by mistake, but you could have said something like 'Hey you! You're really lazy!'".

I'm all for keeping raunchy and vulgar things away from my daughter, but it's my job - as a parent, not the government's. In the event that she's exposed, I explain it to her, the best I can, stressing that things like that are inappropriate.

Don't let the government gain control of the media. Benjamin Franklin once said "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.", and it is as true today as the day he said it.
