explorer.exe
So I was looking through my running processes just a second ago, and it's telling me that explore.exe is running and is using 100,000 K worth of memory and that IEXPLOR.exe is using 75,000 K. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's normal. Anyone know what could be going on?

spyware as well. http://www.lavasoftusa.com = adaware. May have to run it in safe mode if it's a particularly agressive spyware/trojan.
Baggs, post a screenie of what your taskmanager window looks like for processes (make sure to make task mgr. big enough to see all the processes). Also, sort them by user name if you could.

Yes and yes.

Edit: I might just do a format because now that I realize it, I installed my 9600XT after coming from an Nvidia card and doing a fresh install for it might be a good idea.

I have both Search and Destroy and Adaware and neither of them are picking anything up. Thanks for the help, it seems like I'm always having an issue of some sort.

winamp.exe
trillian.exe
EM_EXEC.exe
taskmgr.exe
Those are the ones I know that you should be able to rid yourself of for better performance I'm not sure about the others.

ummm......taskmgr.exe is only running because it's what's showing you that lovely bit of info in the first place.....

Bagginses, if you've switched from nvidia to ATI without doing a clean install, it's definately a good idea to do so, just to clean out the debri. Just make sure to install your Anitvirus software, as well as firewall/spyware stuff BEFORE putting any data you've backed up back onto the 'puter, just in case you've got a bug in there somewhere. I'll try to research some stuff later today (after class, when I'm a bit more awake

Task manager was open because I was taking a screenshot of it and I was listening to music and chatting at the same time, hence, winamp and trillian. Not sure what EM_EXEC but I'll see if I can find out. I'll check that utility and if it's seeming as if there's something fishy going on I'll just wipe this baby clean.

Edit: um, where do I find that system configuration utility. I checked in control panel and didn't seem to find it. Thanks.
