Lets see, when they first introduced the two slot card, it marked the start of a mass exodus to the ATI camp. This will probably mark the start of nothing, since most people are now in the ATI camp. ;)

I'm only using one PCI slot right now anyway. No biggie here

Nvidia's current cards already take up two slots.

they have big coolers for some reason...

I believe I read in an article that the memory on the nv40 will be clocked at 1600mhz.....and the core at 600.....ill try to dig up the article...cant remember the site.

there are already benchmarks out for it:

KOTOR 1600x1200 4xaa 8xaf 49.3fps
HALO 1600x1200 0aa 8af 51.1 fps
FarCry 1600x1200 0aa 0af 53.4 fps

ATI hasn't released any yet

I'm not sure, go to tomshardware.com and look at some benchmarks. Current top of the line cards will be a lot slower, though I expected more of an increase in speed from Nvidia's next gen cards. ATI's speeds will hopefully be better

ATI all the way baby. Some of us need our PCI (and soon to be PCX) slots!

I truely think nvidia is going to be faster this round.
the rumors are that the nv4o is going to have 16X1 pipelines
while the r420 is only going to be 12x1. Architecturally, that was the only thing that was holding the nv3x series back.

Another rumor is that nv40 will support Pixel and vertex shaders 3.0, while ATi is going to stick to 2.0. I tend not to believe this rumor. I think ATI will also have 3.0 support, but will not encourage the use of 3.0 shaders in games until after the r500 is released.

i doubt Nvidia will have 16X1 pipelines. They still claim their current cards are 8x1, even though they are actually 4x2. Would not surprise me if the Nv40 is actually 8x2 and just mimicks 16x1. in my opinion, it's too big of a jump for them to release a 16x1 card when the fastest card they have now is only 4x2.

Last I heard, ATI won't be supporting PS3.0. When you think about it, there really is no point for them to do so. PS2.0 isn't even being used widely in games yet. sure, you've got some new shaders here and there, but use of PS2.0 slows down games a lot. Nvidia should concentrate on perfecting what they're using now, rather than jumping ahead and supporting something in the future that's ahead of something they can't even support now.

there are some very strong rumors floating around that nvidia dropped their original nv40 design which was 8x2. They then bumped up their nv45 design to their nv40. That design has 16x1 pipelines. Some people in another forum anlayzed the rumored transistor count, and said that was a large enough increase to have both 16x1 and 3.0 shaders. Lets just say that those people are very knowledgable in graphics and graphics hardware.

as far as 3.0 suport in games goes, there are already games in development that will use it. Unreal 3 is confirmed to be using 3.0. Im also suspecting that stalker will use 3.0 shaders as well. Nvidia has been working very closely with the developers(GSC) on that one. GSC said that there was possibility that stalker would be bundled with nv40. That means we could see 3.0 shaders in games as early as september.

I know that the farcy patch implements PS 3.0's into the game. I'm not sure why games are doing this--what are the big plus points for using PS3? the only part of BFV that uses PS2.0 is the water effects...maybe some other objects use them, but I haven't noticed

BF vietnam doesnt really have a high tech graphics engine.

Dude. Why do we need new shaders? I think the 2.0 look fine as they are.

I also notice the Nvidia card with 1.6Ghz ram speed? Dude, sounds like their pumping up their numbers, it will most likely only be 800 or 400 but some trick used to make it work like it's 1.6Ghz. You know, it's what intel does with bigger numbers to attract the people who only know what sale associates tell them. :\ *just my 2 cents. Afghan 2 cents (Note less then US$0.01) lol*
