Best PCI slot video card...

Postby Murgatroyd » Wed Apr 07, 2004 3:43 pm

I know that AGP blows the socks off of PCI slot video cards, but my friend got stuck with a board that has no AGP, and buying a new computer is out of the question for him. So I started to do some research into PCI slot video cards, and http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-143-011&depa=0 was the best that I could find. Am I right or are there more out there that I'm just not finding? Thanks.

Why not get a new mother board and switch all the rest from his old machine. Then go AGP. Mother boards range from $50 to 150 to buy, and will leave room for future add-ons.

Well, he has a Dell, which as far as I know has propritary components, so it's not like he can go swapping mobos unless he buys one from Dell directly, which is, IMO, a waste of money. BTW, this really is for a friend, not for me.. ;) I just got a new PC.. ;)

PowerColor RADEON 9200™ PCI 256MB DDR (R92P-D3L)

it has 256 MB of ram (which is a complete waste) but the next best thing would be the 9200se, which is a lot slower.

Shame Murg Shame!

Friends don't let friends use Dell's (or Compaq's for that matter)

Although I've been using ATI for a while now, I think the budget nVidia cards are better than ATI in the same price range.

$120 seems like a lot for a video card to put in an older pc with no agp. If it's worth anything to you, my son plays BFV with a gf3 ti200.

for PCI 256 isn't a waste I think. Because it can't access textures directly from system memory so it has to load them all at once so you might end up using over 128MB, wouldn't you?
