Help With PunkBuster Required
Yippee! This is my 100th post, Whose gonna party with me?
Okay, joking aside, Can somebody please help me???
Everytime I play on a PunKBuster site my computer crashes within a few minutes. And I don't know how to stop this from happening. Many people have told me to download new files from evenbalance.com and I have done that. I even run the PBweb.exe program aswell everytime before I play.
I have already uninstalled the game and then reinstalled and added the 1.4 patch again, but that didn't help either.
Things were working fine for a few days but it's all gone silly again.
I am running out of options, Please help as I really don't know what to do.
Anyone that responds to my thread I say Thankyou but can you also keep your answer simplified as I am a bit hopeless when it comes to computer termonology.
Many Thanks,
Giggles.

Giggles, happy 100th!:D
Hopefully I can help. I had the same problem around the end of October '02 (it was because of this that I discovered oc48 beach! Hurry for pathetic Punkbuster!).
You seem to have done what you needed to, so I only have a couple of things to suggest: make sure that those files you downloaded from PB are the right ones and that you placed them in the proper file on your computer. Also, if it's right and still crashes...well, here's what I did: I went into the Wolfe view options and set "particles" to 'OFF'. This may sound weird, but when I applied the new PB files I started crashing on MORE servers, including nonPB servers. I was ready to pull my hair out when a friend suggested that particle setting to me (we'll call him Ace R. I'll let everyone figure out what the 'R' is for, he plays the beach sometimes and has no tolerance for incompetence. So he can get pretty frustrated!). I don't tempt fate enough to turn it back on.
My computer is not the best here, but it's still pretty sweet. Running Athlon XP 1700, 64 MB Radeon 7200 (Optimus) video card, Soundblaster Live, 256 MB RAM on Windows 98 (don't trust XP). It's a monster compared to any of my friends' computers. So you can imagine that I was annoyed that my monster had this little hang-up.
Hopefully this has been some help. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
BTW, I'll party with you. Cya in the war room!:D
For others reading this -- did any of you have the "particles" problem? Just wondering...

ummm I got a new comp just 2 months ago....kept on shutting down on me.......in wolf.....I turned off a few things but that wasn't the prob...it was my moniter...so I upgraded to a digitle 17" lcd screen...it works now ummmm....but look else where I think...vid, moniter, and then settings in wolf...thats my guess.....activision had a great q and a section on vid cards
Hello!
Thankyou Edogg, Doug and 44444 for replying.
Doug I have done what you said about the particles thing. I've just got to put it to the test.
Lately, my only option has been to keep re-installing the game patch every time I have played on a PB site and then to download files from the net, but that has been a bit of a pain and time consuming, plus it would only work for a little while and it always crashed when the map was rotated.
Edogg to answer your question, Yes I only seem to crash on PB sites. Occassionally I crash on very large servers that are not PB enabled but it is a much rarer occurance.
Hopefully Doug, my problem will now be cured. I will let you know how I go on.
Thanks again fellows, This rounds on me...
Are you drunk yet?
Best Regards,
Giggles.

Was it some .dll file you had to download? I had this same problem a while ago. Downloading the dll file and putting it in the proper folder fixed it right up. If you did not download any dll files then that is most likely your problem. I can't remember the name of the file though. Will try and find the name out if you have no idea what I am talking about.

i know crap bout computers, but, ive heard this happening to several people. which, since im a good guesser (usually) i told them to reinstall the game, it fixed 2/7 people that i know that had that prob. so, try untalling the game, then delete all wolf files off ur comp, then look for them again to delete (things dont always go away with uninstall) after youve taken off all wolf things, try reinstalling the game. i think this problem may happen with the new game>1.4 patch, so if i were you, id try to update the game to 1.33 if you could, then update to 1.4 (1.33 included pb as one of the main things if i remember right) hmm... i think i just said something i dont even know. good luck giggles, and congrats on your promotion... im about to get mine :o)

Sorry if this is irrelivant, I'm too tired to read the other posts right now, but PB has been kicking me from this one server, it keeps saying "server running old version of PB" right but it kicks me. I talked to the other guys, I'm the only one it kicks but they all recieve the same error message. I just thought that was pretty gay. carry on....... carry on..........
I can't remember exactly where I downloaded this file because it was a link on some forum. I think it was pbsv.dll but am not positive. I'll attach it this post and you can give it a shot. I had to zip it up because this board does not allow you to attach .dll files. I am assuming you know how to unzip stuff? If you don't, use a program called Winzip. Unzip the file to the pb directory in your Wolfenstein folder. For example I would overwrite it to "C:\program files\return to castle wolfenstein\pb". Overwrite the old pbsv.dll when it asks if you want to do so. It should work...that is if this was the right file.
