I have only used Ventrilo a few times. But I don't think you can have different channels with Ventrilo can you? Well I chose Teamspeak because I like its server program and how it is layed out...

Dude
Every time Ventrilo has ever been brought up you dissed it.
Having a change of heart?

I have used both for a long time. In fact I have a 25-man Vent server now I use for long distance calls or gaming.

TS was nice when I first started playing games. The clan then converted to Vent and I hated the learning curve. Much more in the way of settings. But after I got it tweaked the clarity jump was like going from Roger Wilco to TS two times over. Thats how much clearer Vent is over TS. The clarity isn't even close. If anyone says they are close than they have never used both and are just throwing in two cents they don't have. If anyone is interested in hearing the difference let me know and I'll give you my server IP to try out. Just get the client.

Side note is that Vent and TS can be on at the same time. Your binds for push to talk need to be different, of course.

Also there is a bad TS download out that has spyware included with the package. So only DL from TS.org. And I read somewhere that the virus (trojan) that everyone was getting is key stroke software that TS put in on purpose.

I think the only reason TS is used now is because the server side is still free. Vents server side must be purchased. I only pay $9.99/month for 25. A ten man is $4.99 from my provider with unlimited bandwith. So I can use the top codec.

I have heard there are issues with TS regarding echo and other things.. .. But I have to admit that Ventrilo doesn't have any crackling/echoing issues like I frequently have in TeamSpeak...
Maybe you could say:

Features-------Quality
TS>Vent-------TS<Vent

not this thread but I know we spoke about it once or twice before and you weren't ready to dump TS.

I am in utter shock at the poll results so far. My Tempo must be faster than a Ferrari. Its a bizzaro world we live in.

I care more about features. Vent may have better clarity, however, it is not like TS sounds like someone talking via two soup cans and a string. If Vent does not have the features that TS does(like different channels), then there is no reason to switch.

Vent has the features and then some. You can page individuals so your chat doesn't interupt someone talking. You can post comments next to your handle. There is a quick chat function that opens a small chat room to exchange items such as passwords without disconnecting. My opinion is that you try it out especially the most recent version and then vote. While TS is better than soupcans it also finds itself closer to soupcans than Vent would in regards to clarity. The poll should have read--If you have used the most recent versions of TS or Ventrilo for at least a week each, which do you prefer. Than I think the poll numbers would change.

I keep seeing channels mentioned. You can have channels, sub channels and subchannels of subchannels if you want. Much more feature rich than TS. Even has a MIC adjustment for volume.

Ventrilo voice quality blows TS away but if I recall right the bandwidth makes a nice jump also. Unless there using better compression now, been along time since I used it.

if you want go DL and play amongst yourselves. Here is a server to use just be kind to anyone on. Plenty of channels to tweak your client in.

server name
typefrag.com

server IP
3867

Don't worry its mine. In todays age you might as well have Vent installed on the PC also. No real conflicts as long as you keep your push to talk buttons different.

I prefer TS. Not because of the features or the quality but because my friend gave me a TS channel on his server.

We used to use TeamSpeak for a while. It did get quite annoying if a new map was loading and somebody started talking and it kept repeating like a broken record. But Ventrilo just seems so much more "resource friendly" and I like the sound quality a lot better. It sounds a lot clearer and less scracthy.

**You can add channels with it.

The best part about Ventrilo is the fact that there's a feature in it where you type a message and a voice plays it back for everyone to hear. :):)
