yes thats right, thats the main reason that prescotts are slower than northwoods. Intel extended the pipelines so they could ramp up the clock speeds. But that isnt what this debate was about.
The EE is targeted at gamers. The only difference between the EE and other p4s is its 2mb l3 cache. They have the same pipeline lengths, same fsb speeds, they use the same instructions, same instructions per clock, and they use the same mobo chipsets. Because of the extra cache, the EE is Intels best gaming processor. Thats it. End of story. No more arguing.

I'd put my money on athlon X in 64bit mode myself.

I know. Athlon's are the best at the moment. Not including the latest and greatest apple processor which I've heard is very fast. TO bad you can't use them on an AT system.Originally posted by Evan
Even not overclocked it outperforms my dad's P4 2.53Ghz at it's stock speed of 2.08Ghz.

I would love to see a benchmark of it vs athlon 64.

yes the best overall gaming processor is the a64 fx-53. Im getting the p4 3.4 EE instead because then I dont have to buy a new mobo or memory. The fX line of processors require memory with error correction, which is hella expensive.

Yes ECC is expensive but with something as fast as it you would be pushing systems speeds. If my system supportred ECC I would use it. Cut back on system errors.Originally posted by Edogg

But I'm sure you could find a athlon 64 fx mobo that doesn't require ecc if youlooked hard enough.

The new 939 pin mobos do not require ecc ram
