Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

It is not a #1 problem, I'm getting it on all servers now. 80fps to 90 fps standing still, 60fps in battle, and 4 fps when it occurs. It occurs about every ten seconds.

I have removed the router and the switch. No change. Maybe my vid card is dying.

DXDIAG and IRQ's below.

Any thoughts?

Havoc, try turning off (in BIOS) devices that you don't use.
ie, com1, smbus controller.
pull your sound card out, reboot and see if the irq's will
reshuffle. then add the sound card back in.

the idea here is to stop all irq sharing just in case it's
causing a performance problem. (performance wise
its better to turn off any devices you don't need any way.)

good luck

Maybe a bare bones install or maybe my vid card is dying. A vid card is an issue though because if I remember right my AGP 8X slot is 1.5 volts. I think they changed the volts midstream for 8X. I'll keep working on it.

Your mobo is 1.5 volts, you are corrrect there.

Your vid card is AGP 4x, which should also be 1.5volts, so you are fine there.

wierd stuff.....Maybe you could get a new cablle/DSL modem? They usually will give you another one if you bring yours into the local office with the a/c adaptor.....

Well I decided to watch my network, processor and page file activity while idle. I saw cpu spikes every 30sec to one minute some as strong as 90%.

I began to look at services and processes that were running and also apps that might be new.

I normally run Norton Antivirus 2002 but a friend gave me Norton Utilities 2004. I know I know, it's a bunch of troublesome apps. I only installed the antivirus, speeddisk, system info and wipinfo. Well it accounted for roughly seven services and processes.

I uninstalled the whole package and saw that the processor spikes stopped. I have also been monitoring my fps with fraps all morning. The most loaded server I could find was fastfrags on DC at 48 players. So far not a glitch. I played without one dip to 1-4fps and was consistently at 60 to 90fps.

It would seem I found the culprit.

Havoc, you should be fine with the A/V software in by itself, as well as system info. If I recall right, sys info just adds some reg stuff so you can get more info outta a right-click menu, and gives you a control panel app. shouldn't run as a process (and at worst you could disable it). I run NAV 2003 and have no issues with it, even on the rare times it auto-updataes the virus defs while I'm playing (which I consider a good interference, ya know?)

All I can say is it was present with the horrible processor spikes and they are gone now that it is. I may try just bringing the AV we'll see. Right now I'm just happy to have my fps back :D
