It Had To Happen!

Postby Colonel Ingus » Mon Jul 12, 2004 6:40 pm

Its Monday at about 6:30 CST

No one has posted a controversial socio-political thread! Well Gentlemen! I am here to take up the slack.

Here's an article concerning the media bias, which I happen to believe in, By Orson Scott Card.

Those of you of who read may recognize him from some very popular books such as "Ender's Game".

Definitely worth a read.

Good one Ingus. A friend of mine has a blog that you might be interested in. No professional.. but he lives and breathes this stuff. He has little rant on media bias himself today. Also, I strongly suggest the book Bias. It is awesome.

What a pointless article, every argument can turned back on the author as well. How likely is it that he picked those articles at random? Isn't he looking for a liberal bias and so biased towards finding one?

People are biased, it's human nature. If you pick the liberal journalists and look for bias of course you will find it, but you can work that the other way round too. In fact your favorite guy Michael Moore does exactly that in Dude where's my country and acuses the press of right wing bias. Does that prove the media has a right wing bias? Does this prove the whole media has a biased liberal agenda? No of course it doesn't. The media is simply far too big to come out with a statement to that effect from either political standpoint, so the sooner both sides quit whinning about press bias the better.

Thanks for wasting 10 more of my precious minutes Ingus :D, I love to hear about liberals ruining the world.

Great article Ingus...it's good to see a talented author like Card present clear, well thought examples. Parrot, I think the point that Card is making is that most of the Right-biased media admits to it. The majority, which can usually be shown to be left-leaning, refuses to admit that they might be in favour of one side. As always, just my $.02

Maybe it is which ever side of the fence you prefer to sit, will be the stories you believe the most. I for one, am just sick and tired of news reports, late nite tv shows, late nite variety shows, comedians, rock stars and my personal favorate, actors, depicting and calling our President a baffoon.

Granted, he doesnt handle himself well in front of the camera and will say what pops into his head. To me that is genuine, not some fake ass that only goes in the direction that is self-serving.

" Without question,we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, muderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. He represents a particularly grievous threat becuase he is constantly prone to miscalculation. And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his constant grasp for WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. So the THREAT of Saddam Hussein with WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION is REAL"
Sen. John F Kerry (D,MA) Jan.23 2003

What amazes me is that I would have to dig such a quote up. Since everything Bush has said has been dragged through the mud and put back on our plates every time we turn on the evening news. I dont know, maybe its me, maybe I'm just a stupid Republican. Even more than others (from what a learned from the media), since I'm a blue collar guy and will always be.

The Kerry and Edwards ticket now say that they will fight Terrorism also, but better than that of the Bush White House, this coming from a man that votes against any military and intelligence advancement whatsoever, if votes he had casted came to fruition, we wouldnt have a military or intelligence. (which Clinton tried his hardest to dismantle) How is he going to fight terrorism you ask, I have no idea, because he doesnt either. What about the anti-war wing of his party, how are they going to like him fighting terrorism. You dont see them out there ranting and raving when he give his "I'm going to be stronger than Bush on terrorism speech", because they know he wont do anything. (same as Clinton before, say what you gotta to get in, then do the opposite) And the media goes along for the ride, no questions, no opposition.

I'm amazed how the Clinton administration walks away unscaved after that "unbias" 9/11 commision wrapped up. Why didnt we hear about what measures were taken after a dozen or so terrorist attacks that took place during their watch. Why werent these questions asked, or investigated deeper. Why I could pull my hair out, Bush is office for 8 months, yet its his fault or better yet, he willingly allowed the death of 3,000 Americans and foreigners, for political gain. This is shit that I hear get commented (or thrown out there, for you to hear) on in the NEWS, like its fact. Insanity.

I just like a guy that says what he is going to do and stands by it, sometimes good sometimes bad. I'm not from the South, so the cowboy thing he does, doesnt appeal to me, but its him and thats ok.

You wont see him picking up a guitar, holding it like an ass, to appeal to the crowd, stand by and watch some washed up comedians crack Kerry jokes............sorry, just a ranting of a obviously confused blue collar Republican. Gee wonder who I'm voting for. See Col. you got me all pissed off!:D

This is getting old. Ingus, I'm sorry, but if you need me, PM me. I'm not ever going to click on another thread started by you. I'm sick of thread after thread of political shit. I don't care what the media is saying. I don't care what the conservatives or liberals are doing. Learn to live with it and stop bringing this crap up in the Smoking Room. What about a special forum for these things so I DON'T HAVE TO SEE THEM.

I don't think most media outlets are left or right biased, here in America they are mostly biased toward sensationalism. No surprise because ratings=profit, so boring news=no profit.
That why your weather report teaser sounds like this just before a storm that drops six inches of snow on you:
"TONIGHT! Could this be the blizzard of the century? will you die an icy death in a coffin of snow???? Tune in at 11 for this crucial weather report!!"
They take the most overblown angle on any story, left or right.
So, Rumsfeld speaking at a graduation is too boring a headline, they look to inject some controversy into it whenever possible. They did it through all of Clintons term too.
News outlets that have to sell ads just suck.

I agree for 100% with Dakana and Cavalierlwt.
This is a Gamingsite/forum guys!
Talk about smacktards, or other crap. But every day the "Kerry - Bush, democrats - republicans, etc. shit" is getiing a bit out of control.
1 tip to you guys: base your opinion from YOUR opinion. Not from another person or from the media. Like in Iraq, old Germany ('35-'44), there is still propaganda all around the world. Especially when there are elections.

I have been waiting to use this:lock: :lock: However, not just yet thou because not enough blood has been spilled. I would say that those of you who don’t wish to read political threads have the right to not click on them. You have this right because of the United States military. This is just my 2 cents; it doesn’t mean anything to anybody…except to myself. Damn, I promised myself that I wouldn’t post to these threads anymore.

I could never understand why people want to censor the opinions of others. If I don't want to read Merciless Creations updates in the forums, I don't click on the link. If I click a link and it is about EOD which I don't play, I hit the back button. If I am tired of political threads, I certainly wouldn't post in one.

Anyway ... the interesting thing is that the "mainstream" media seems to be digging themselves into a bigger hole, because Fox News Channel is the highest rated cable TV news channel. After all, it IS all about the people.
