Did you read the book? It was wonderful.

Never seen the film, in fact, I didn't know one existed. It should be re-made.

No...I will probably have to read it in college.

To be quite honest, I'm not much of a reader. I do read the newspaper and pc gamer.

A remake will probably never happen due to the deterioration of attention span and intelligence in todays society.

That is my take on it, how unfortunate it may be.

Swirling between the myth of pop culture and tribal truth is depressing. Did you know 1984 was banned from the North America school curiculum for many years? Might still be, for all I know. Thankfully I had an english teacher who upended a crate of books in class one day and said: "These are all the books currently banned in our curriculum. They are part of my personal collection. Please return them."

I never returned my copy of 1984.

1984 doesn't need a remake. No one could beat Richard Burton and John Hurt in the two main roles. It's quite faithful to the story and atmosphere of the book too.

No, it shouldn't be remade - they got it right the first time. Great film.

However...

This is hollywood we're talking about. The people who have green lighted Police Academy 8 (shudder). Of course they're remake it eventually, most likely sooner rather than later. They'll just cut it to ribbons and make it into some formulaic action flick, probably starring Will Smith (in between MIB and I, Robot sequels).

I weep for the future of cinema.

I read 1984 as part of AP English the summer before my junior year, along with A Brave New World. Both great books about human's futile attmpt at utopia (consequently froming dystopia). Awesome novels!

Not all remakes are terrible. Anyone remember that old LOTR cartoon movie...? If you watch that, you'll be thanking God for Peter Jackson.

Excellent book.

Orwell's "1984", Huxley's "Brave New World", and Bradbury's "Farenheit 451" are all excellent cautionary tales.
