Is the Logitech high performance mouse better?

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Is the Logitech high performance mouse better?

Postby BladeRunner » Wed Jul 28, 2004 9:14 am

Any one here using the logitech high performance mice?
MX300, mx500, mx700 or any of the models considered
high performance gaming mice.

The part i'm interested in is when making fairly rapid side
to side movements (circle strafing around another player)
is the screen sharper and clearer using the high performance
mouse compared to older slower mice?

Mice are not created equal and for me i can see the
difference between say and old serial mouse compared
to a usb newer type mouse.
info on mice latency: http://ctiwebct.york.ac.uk/ETSL/mice.html

Maybe an open discussion on Mice can help many of us
get a better 3d experience when gaming.

comments are welcome from every one, we all live and
die by the mouse.

I dont think what I use is specically designed for gaming performance but works well for me. what i like about the mouse is the rubber grip and the mousepad is reflective which improves response.

The MX500 and MX700 are some of the best mice you can buy. The MX700 shows no signs of it being wireless, it performs just like a wired mouse. Go to hardware sites, all will list it as being one of the best for gaming.

I went from a MS Intellimouse optical to the MX510 wired. HUGE difference in accuracy. The MS mouse always felt like it was lagging behind in my intended movements whereas the MX510 is very precise.

Plus, all the battery replacements for the optical was a pain. Isn't the 700 a recargeable unit? That'd be a plus, if you really want to go optical. The 40 bucks I paid for the 500 series was well worth it..

Savant and Heatmiser,
Do you guys see a difference with the logitech mice compared
to your old mice when you make medium fast moves with
the mouse?

Lets say in Battlefield or Wolf you are standing 30 game feet
away from some one, using the mouse only you quickly
look to the left and right of the other player. With the new
mouse is the clarity of the player better with the new mouse?
and does the screen scroll smoothely?

My idea here is maybe the high performance mice sends
new coordinate information to the pc quicker than the older
mice. The result much smoother scrolling 3d effects during
rapid mouse movement.

if the new mice make the screen scroll smoother then i will
have to try one of them out.

I notice a difference as far as precision in concerned. Never noticed a difference in clairity between either (I'll test it out tonight now that you've peaked my curiosity).

When I had the MS Optical I never felt as though I was lacking in relation to the 3D effects. Then again, I'm using a Dell 17LCD (and settings set to MED), which is probably not the best gaming monitor to begin with. Still, I am completely satisfied with my MX510. Got it for $39 on sale at Best Buy.

MX700 mouse and the Keyboard combo here Blade.

No complaints other than 'sometimes' the mouse doesn't want to 'hook-up' in XP Pro at startup. I just have to restart to get the mouse to run properly.

Get the combo if you can Blade. Plus, I use the 2.4 g wireless joystick. Hell, I'm all wireless now!!

I think what happens for most of us is that we get used to
our mouse and the lack of information it gives us.
for example i know that when i move the mouse quickly
the screen blurs a little bit so i make up for it by making
snap movements with the mouse then fine tuning the
position in small increments. i may be wrong but i think
most of us do this with out thinking about it.
a sure way to lose in a one on one fight is to lose track
of your enemy. it's not just a matter of seeing him but
also seeing him well enough to know what direction he
is aiming and traveling.

a quick test of your mouse and how quickly it sends
information to your pc: on the windows desktop quickly
move the mouse back and forth, notice the spacing
between the images. lets say you get 8 maybe 10 after
images. that will mean your 100 frame per second,
100 hz refresh gaming machine is only showing you 8 new
images during a quick 90 degree turn.

i'm just thinking out loud here and i'm most likely wrong.
my theory is open to criticism.

Yep Harry, I agree. I have the same combo you do, and the 2.4ghz cordless joystick. God that joystick is sweet. :D

I am considering trying out one of the new uber logitech mx510 corded mice though. Wondering if a lighter mouse will feel better for playing games, even if it is corded.

Well, any new control device takes time to get used to.

When I first got the MX mouse/board combo, I had some control problems compared to the MS optical mouse I had before. You just have to get into the setup software for the mouse, adjust the speeds and such to work for ya. Same goes for the joystick. Before this one, I didn't use the joystick for rudder movements. Once I did the changeover to the stick for rudder.....LOOK OUT!!

Just personal preference here guys. We still have some spankys (Jon) who use no joystick, just a mouse to fly.

Must be he prefers his 'personal' joystick, huh????

I use the MX700 and have never noticed a lag. It performs without issue. I did opt to change the batteries to Duracel NIHM's. The charge lasts much longer.

I have both the MX700 and the MX510. Used the MX700 for quite some time and liked it, but when the 510 came out I got one. The MX510 is outstanding! I still use my wireless 700 for general use because I like being wireless. I also have the Logitech Freedom 2.4 joystick and that rocks too. There is a difference between the 510 and the 700. With the 700 I was constantly over-correcting and the split second that I took to readjust my aim was enough to get me killed. With the 510 that is no longer a problem. Very smooth. As too you original question about 3D clarity, I see no difference at all.
