So long...farewell...

Postby Jeffro » Thu Jul 29, 2004 10:43 pm

Auf wiedersehn good night (to political threads).

I even said in my damn post that it wasn't intended to be an argumentative, verbose tirade.

Yet...it turned out to be one.

Boy was I naive thinking that it wouldn't.

Admins...you made the right desicion.

What it means is that we all blew our chance to make civil political discussion. They gave us several warnings and chances, yet we ignored. So they pulled the plug on political threads.

For all those thinking that it was my farewell...sorry but you're outta luck. :D

No offense but in the discussions we've had here I can't say I've seen any real flamage or bad blood.

just my 2 cents.

I hope I wasn't considered among the flamers or with other bad behavior. I don't think I was, but you can never be sure. Oh well, back to my usual hilarious (IMO) posts!

It was time. ECGN simply isint the place for such discussions.

Sure, this is the 'Smokin' Room... however, most of those threads were far beyond 'smokin.'

Our defination of 'flaming' is probably a lot different than other forums. I've been to many forums where its common to call someone a deregatory name. Not here.

To sum up, let me post an example.

Nearly 2 years ago, when OC48 and ECGN were seperate, I completely enjoyed ECGN forums! It was a very tight knit community, full of mature posters. We had one hell of a time in the forums, and on IRC. It was an absolute blast.

When ECGN and OC48 merged, I was scared. The OC48 forums were huge! The community was a lot different. However, the friendly atmosphere quickly eased my fears, and I felt I could fit in here. Sure, there were diffrences, but it was still great times. Back then, the forums were not like they are today. I actually enjoyed the forums. I read them many times a day, and had a great time.

Then, I started to notice a trend. People "debating" over certain things. At first, I ignored it.

The forums were changing. No longer was the forum a happy-go-lucky home away from home. "Debate" and political "discussions" took over. After closing a few of them, I left the forums.

I rarely visit now. It certinely isin't what it used to be. I'm actually afraid to read the forums someitmes, for fear another "political" thread has taken over. It's quite depressing.

After discussing it with Jon, we decided its best to put an end to this. ECGN is, simply put, a business. These forums should be used for general chatter, game discussion, etc. Many other forums on the 'net have established themselves to be good political discussions, and we think its best for you to take your "discussions" elsewhere.

That being said, this will be the only thread discussing these new policies. There is no need to create another forum, as we simply don't have the time to moderate such a war.

Most political threads will be closed. Most religious threads will be closed. Please folks, take them elsewhere.

It's always happy and go lucky...maybe too much! :D

Since these new rules are enforced, maybe ecgn will make a 180 and be like it used to be!
