Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Every game store here is sold out, only pre-orders. I have never pre-ordered since there are always tons of extra copies. I will hit up the Best Buys of the world on the way home, especially Walmart which seems to get the games in the same day as game stores like EB. If not, EB said more coming in tomorrow.

Best Buy told me that, and then I called an hour later and was told they aren't allowed to give out copies until the 4th.

graphics can only take a game so far. then it starts to get boring. are any of you finding this?

This is why i did not buy it. The first doom was repetetive also but it was groundbreaking and the first of its kind.

This one is just doom 1 or 2 with new maps and better gfx.

I never really played Doom I or II so this will be something new to me. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Gamespot has updated its review of the game and it sounds like what I expected.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/preview_6104011.html

I like this quote:

it's a tough pill to swallow that none of the futuristic weapons in Doom 3's gritty world come equipped with light-amplification modules--or that our marine can't just find some duct tape (in a research facility packed to the brim with piping and air ducts, no less) or, like, maybe hold the flashlight under his arm, or something. Considering the intense realism of Doom 3's graphics, these "gamey" contrivances stick out to us more than they might in some other game.

well Ive played this game for the past couple hours, and I can say without a doubt that Doom 3 is the scariest game Ive ever played.

Switching to the flashlight isn't that big of a deal in my opinion. I think it would really destroy half the lighting in the game if you constantly had the flashlight on. What good would flickering lights be if you had a light on all the time.
Most of the guns provide ample flash when shooting to see your targets anyway. I'm sure there will be a mod for it, but in most of the levels that come with the game that would, for someone trying to get into the game and atmosphere of it, kill the experience.
Same thing will the kill, reload, kill idea. The game has a good storyline and all the logs and videos you pick up along the way really split the action, suspense and story into an overall great playing experience.
