CARB this and CARB that!
Every F*cking commercial I hear is about carbs...
"Lower your carb count with ****"
"Half as many carbs as regular ****"
"0 Sugar Carbs"
"Carb-free milk"
"Carb-free Cereal"
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The worst part about it is that I work in a grocery store, and I'm surrounded by carb diet or "atkens approved" crap.
I know the companies are smart by suckering peopel in to buy there carb free crap, but its too much.
I just can't get away from it....

Dr. Atkins was overweight and had had many strokes at the time of his death.
Carbs aren't bad for you. Its the type of foods you eat. Eating 4lbs of butter and 1/2 a tub of lard with a few peices of bacon is not healthy for you; although its ok on the Atkins diet.
Its about eating good carbs (Ie: clean foods) like whole weat, oatmeal, and fruits.
Eat whole grains (including breads and pastas...whole wheat pastas ect) , veggies, lean meats, fruits and nuts. Thats a good diet.
Your body relies on carbohydrates for fuel, and unless you are completely sedentary and way overweight, the Atkins diet was not meant for you.
The Atkins diet is a short term fat loss diet for overweight people who never exercise at all. It will starve your body of essential nutrients so it will start to use your fat (at muscle) as fuel.
I eat lots of whole wheat pasta, whole grain bagels and especially oatmeal. I have gotten and kept myself at 6.5% bodyfat for over 2 years.
It is a good idea to keep nighttime carbs down to zero if you can. Basically 5hrs before bedtime; unless you workout at night, then you definately need to restore your glycogen levels with carbs after workout.
The basic idea is: Eat healthy, and try to exercise a little. But at the very least eat healthy. People get fat because of horrible eating habits and unhealthy foods (most are too lazy to make their own meals).

As both my parents had heart disease and Diabetes and ate "healthy" (according to the erroneous diet recommendations in past decades), I'd like to put in my 2 cents.
I am not on the Atkins diet, however know many that are. Unless you have some underlying condition, the vast majority of people can lose weight and be healthy.
Atkins was overweight at the time of his death because his body retained fluids due to his injury. That is a common occurence with traumatic injuries etc.
His heart condition was caused by an infection according to him. My dad had the same condition so that is possible.
The Atkins diet is very similar to a Diabetic diet; same concept. The enemy is insulin, which is why most fruits (apples, bananas etc.) are recommended in low moderation. Berries such as raspberries, strawberries, blueberries etc. are fine. If you don't have a problem with insulin, eat all the fruit you want though.
The Atkins diet is only short term if you allow it. It still boils down to eating habits.
The Atkins diet doesn't starve your body of essential nutrients; hogwash. If that were the case, eat all the carbs you want.
Eggs are not bad for you. That was a lie perpetrated on the public about 40 years ago.
There are good fats and bad fats.
Butter is not bad for you, although reconstituted is better. Margarine is poison. So is vegetable oil, Canola or any oil that's hydrogentated.
Unrefined coconut oil, palm oil, flax oil, olive oil, fish oil etc. are very healthy. EFA is essential. Most people are deficient in Omega3. Read Dr. Johanna Budwig....98 years old.
Low fat/cholestorol diets do NOT decrease risk of heart disease.
Whether it be white flour or "whole wheat" flour, if it's refined, there's no difference. They are both bad.
Eating meat does not make you fat. Nor does the fat cause heart disease.
Despite the multi-million dollar ad hype, cow's milk (especially the junk sold in stores) is not that good for humans. Goat's milk however is; that's what we drink.
Most people that have heart attacks have normal cholesterol levels. Homocysteine and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels are a bigger indicator of heart attack/stroke than cholesterol. The whole statin industry is nothing but a big scam.
---------------------------------------------
Bottom line:
Refined carbs are not good for the heart, but do produce energy, however are not the ideal choice. The best carbs are from vegetables which are complex. Pasta, bread....basically any refined flour is not a healthy carb and is definitely a cause of heart disease.
There are those that have high metabolisms and seem to be able to eat whatever they want without gaining weight. However, that doesn't mean they are less susceptible to heart disease.
We now have two generations that bought the line about low fat, high carb diets, including using vegetable oils and margarine, resulting in epedemic heart disease and diabetes.
Low body fat is no guarantee of disease-free heart health. The bigger concern is oxidized cholesterol (see homocysteine/CRP), hence the need for anti-oxidants (good fats for one) and B Complex supplementation among other things. You can be the ideal weight and still be more susceptible to heart attack/stroke.
There is a lot to nutrition and health, too much to discuss here, but the traditional American diet is not healthy, period.
BTW, most heart attacks are caused by infection.
I just had a bowl of grapenuts, a glass of juice, and some bananabread.
Is that healthy?
(BTW...I can eat whatever I want and not gain a pound.)
Speaking of banana...

I been doing low carbs for a little over a month and have lost about 20 lbs. I like it so far I do miss some food s but once I reach my goal weight I will slowy incorporate them back into my diet. It's nice having choices such as many low carb foods although somethings do taste like crap.
