Win XP SP2 FULL release

Postby Bullhead » Tue Aug 10, 2004 8:54 am

This is the link for the FULL download of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (Home and Pro).

*********WARNING**********
Backup all critical data before performing this update. This makes ALOT of changes to the O/S, most in the name of security, and will likely cause some problems for you initially. You may end up reinstalling windows after this if something goes wrong. Please, please, update at your own risk.

The download is nealy 266mb. If you want, wait a few days (or a week) and M/S will have this avail thru windowsupdate.com in a smaller package.

I think thats for the Developers and such. I know Fileplanet has the normal user version over there. About 80 megs. Personally I DL it but waiting to install. I have heard some feedback that this isn't the best.

It says it's for dev's and IT guys, but really that's just b/c they want you to use windows update to do the install. I prefer to download it on my own, so I can make a backup of it for later installs (so I don't have to winupdate everytime).

As to how good it is, I don't know, I'm in the process of backing up stuff in case this hoses my O/S. Mayhaps some of our M/S devs who visit the forum could chime in......

I have had this package for about 3 weeks and it is really helpful. I haven't had any problems with it. The security is much tighter now.
