That's what I have for dsl.

I get 10mb/s down and 1mb/s up for $39.95 a month for cable modem service. I have 3 computers on a router here. It's quite reliable.

You live in St. Louis. Location does matter in comparison to the server you play at. If you play on ECGN, you'll be pinging higher. I live in Indiana, and ping around 70-80. This "you should ping 40" is nonsense. The further you are away from a server, the more you ping to it. Don't go through the hastle of changing from dsl to cable or cable to dsl if it wont' make a difference.

Hmm...I usually get a ping between 53-65.

I guess that is good! :)

I had wireless for about 1 1/2 years. http://www.speednet.com Once they got the bugs worked out it was as good as cable. For a while they let me have 6mb down 6mb up uncapped which was nice, but now it's 3/756.

Their biggest problem was the contractors installing the hardware improperly.

I now have Charter and imo compared to what others are getting for the same money it's lagging. 3mb down 256 up.

Location has a huge impact on your ping, but so does your ISP. I live in California...during the summer, I live in San Francisco and I have a real nice cable connection. On ECGN I can ping 80-110, depending on population, regardless of time of day. On West Coast servers, I can ping 30-50.

But when I am living in Los Angeles, I have some crappy "comcast high speed" connection which is pretty bad. I ping 110-160 to ECGN, depending on population and time of day.

Both places are generally the same distance to the ECGN server, but quite different pings. But yea...I agree with most people on this thread, cable is generally better, especially for gaming.

im on a wireless router but i get smooth sailing even though i have to connect through a floor and a wall
when my cable modem kicks out i just have to run downstairs to the hub and hit the reset button and im up
the only downtime is when the network is upgrading but thats at about 3:00AM so i dont always hit it. i use an augmenter which is basically where the main cable coming from outside is fed into a small box which is connected to the cirtut breaker(ie more power to the cable) and that allows me to run the 150 ft of cable to my hub
its somewhat of a hassel to set up but its definatly worth it once you get going
i had dsl for about 2 days and i hated it so i called comcast, they hooked me up and i have a 5 megabit connection and im happy. end of story. go CABLE!!!

What Kingofbeers meant to say was that he was curious as to which of the two types of broadband would be better for RTCW MP or ET.

The smoking room is for smokers anyway, not drunks.

Thats what i got now... Charter... sometimes i wanna hurt them so badly. the 3 up 356 down just doesnt seem to do what my old "silver" package connection did for some stupid reason.

I also resent the fact that everyone keeps saying that just cuz i love beer means im an alcoholic... lol
