Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Lucas should have handed the project off to someone else. Let Kevin Smith or someone like that oversee it's production, pick the director etc. If not Kevin Smith, there are plenty of other young producers that worship at the altar of the 'holy trilogy' and would be faithful to the orginal feel of Star Wars.

Kevin Smith? That would be worse than Lucas.

Cool.
You say Lucas has gone insane but the insane ones are the most creative.
I agree the newer movies have all these cute characters that i dislike so hopefully if there are new ones they will be darker.
I was just watching "clones" on HBO the other morning and forgot how great the final battle scene is that starts in the coloseum place. It's like a half hour long.

New characters will not be darker. They have to look good on a happy meal.

Since Lucas always said he'd never get around to making the final 3 movies, he allowed authors to write the books that many of us enjoy. The books follow broad themes, but don't always agree 100% with each other. Lucas knew he might one day make the first 3 movies so he prevented authors from covering certain things, such as the clone wars, while allowing some things like Han Solo's past and some stories about Bobba Fett set before A New Hope. So, I doubt that these new films would have much in common with the books, except perhaps the existence of the New Republic, the Remnants of the Empire, and maybe the Jedi Academy. Whether the movies would be any good I think depends on the director. IMO Empire and Return are better movies than A New Hope, and they were not directed by Lucas. Before the debacle that is Episodes 1 & 2 I would have said he still had the ability to write a great story, but now I'm not sure...the dialog is just lousy in those :(

Yea, Roger That! :(

quote from Sewer: "but now I'm not sure...the dialog is just lousy in those "

I have always thought the same thing. The dialogue is TERRIBLE! I don't know if it is the way it was written or just the horrible acting by the Darth Vadar actor (forget his name).

More Starwars means more Starwars geeks....so: oh nooooooooooooooooo
1,2 and 3 (or 4,5 and 6)was enough. The pre-episodes are just crap (cool graphics, but it just don't fit in the original movies), so who needs more sequels?

I am not sure how a comic illustrator/writer would be a good pick to direct a movie.

O i forgot the other thing i heard a while back, it was that the guy who is writing the new Indiana Jones, is gonna write the new movies and Spielberg is gonna direct cause Lucas is too old, but i think they look about the same age.

How about M. Shyamalan. I think he directs well, but his last movie "The Village" had a very poor plot. Heard he wrote that himself. So leave the writing/story line to someone else, and let him get the actors to give a believable performance.

And yes, Lucas' dialogue is aweful. Some of Anikan's lines...

Talking to Padme...
"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and
irritating, and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here
everything's soft... and smooth..."

About Obi-Wan...
"It's all Obi-Wan's fault. He's jealous!
He knows I'm already more powerful than he is. He's holding
me back! "

I thought the whole tantrum scene after he killed the sandpeople was terrible. I loved the original 3, but can't get into the newer trilogy. I go and see them because of loyalty to the originals, but feel that the LotR trilogy has raised the bar, and Star Wars isn't even close.

Just like Lucas's dialogue

Mutant Enemy

It seems these days Lucas is more interested in advancing the technology of film making rather than apply a decent plot. The prequels are okay at best- nothing like the original trilogy. But you have to admit all they are are 2 hour showcases for the newest ILM tech.
