Political Threads

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Political Threads should be dealt with in the following manner:

Political Threads

Postby Jeffro » Tue Aug 31, 2004 4:26 pm

This poll is not intended to sway your rules or bend them in anyway...after all, it is YOUR server/website.

However...I do have the obligation to get the opinions of the public (regs, guests, etc...).

OPINION:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I think there should be one allowed a week, and after the week is over, lock it.

That way, the forum will be fresh.

They would have to be monitered closely so as not to become perceived as personal attacks upon one another.

Personal beliefs can tied to strong emotions.

Strong convictions unchecked would cause flaming etc. unless everyone was mature about it.

See I would guess that I pissed someone off with that comment.

But I say give it a try- I'm still new here but I guess it is a sore subject for some. What happened in the past?

Let them be free, if you don't want to participate, you don't have to.

the whole reason for the locking of all political threads is because this is a business. They also provide the forums free.... so if they limit what we can say, thats fine and dandy. You wanna talk politics, go join a political forum. This should be about light-hearted subjects like 2 legged dogs, gaming and boxing kangaroos.

They should be allowed, but with a moderator...someone who has the respect, more or less, of the regulars. One of the Admin's would be good, as they have all shown that they can handle authority in an impartial way. We could vote on this if others think it might work. $.02

I don't see any problems allowing political threads.

Would be nice to see some intelligent banter on these boards once again, not that stories about a 2 legged gimp dog isn't great and all. Or we can just keep posting links to flash games that end in a giant screaming noise...

I thought the days of worrying about being 'PC' were over.

I like getting flamed. Nothing says 'I have a weak argument and can't face up to the fact I might be wrong' better than resorting to personal attacks.

The forum isn't the same without PT's, but I don't want it to clutter the forums either. A good balance between mindless crap and intelligent discussions would be preferred. :)

We don't need the offtopic forum filled to the brim with crap pertaining to bush/kerry and make everyone sift through it.

It would be cool if political threads were allowed AFTER the US election.

a sub-forum inside the offtopic forum called "political and religious discussion" could work. it would be an "enter at your own risk" sort of thing.

I agree...sort of.

I think PT's should be limited to ONCE a week, and the topic should be chosen by an admin or something.
