Are you serious? 0 defense? Well Willie McGinest dropped edgerrin James last year at the line and this year he popped Peyton to stop the drive and steal there chances for a reg time win. I could go on and on, but yeah they svck.

anywho, I never said they were going to win the Superbowl. I was just excited to see my team come out with a nice season opener win against a solid team.

Ingus you said they don't play a real team until the Ravens, what about the Colts, i consider the Colts the second best team in the AFC, behind the Patriots.
They also play the Bills, Seahawks, and Chiefs, all teams that are expected to do good this year. So they aren't the beneficieries (spelling) of the easiest schedule.

Not sure what the point of posting the 2003 payrolls, especially given the NFL salary cap.

Hee hee hee! Its fun time!
In response to Trash Can's in depth analysis I present my rebuttal.
(YAY! Imagine how happy Ingus is! No political threads and I was jonesing and now we have FOOTBALL THREADS!!! YEEHAA!!)
Matter of opinion nothing. He is the benificiary of a well schemed and talented team. Lots of people comparing him to Joe Montana and I think thats perfect. He was a good QB but he was a benificiary of his system. I'm not saying he had no talent but how many Superbowls did he win in his years with the Chiefs? And they had talented teams also.
I'll combine my answers on this one. About 20th ranked? thats about 2/3rds the way down the ladder. Doesn't sound good to me and Superbowl history lately shows you have to be in the 10 team defenses (re:Patriots). Saying your better than the bottom 3rd of the league doesn't sound like bragging rights to me.
And I am having a hard time understanding your duct tape comment when you proved my point EXACTLY! 7 guys on the line blocking plus QB makes 8. The Colts would rush four and drop 7 GUYS INTO COVERAGE! and they couldn't cover just three recievers!
Outside the box my man outside the box!
And he sat there the last few weeks studying tape? designing plays, coaching the team into what audibles to call? Or did a good coaching staff do that and make him part of the system.
I'm not saying Brady is a no talent hack. The dude is a good QB. I am just saying he benifits from playing on a good team. And that the Colts defense sucked, as you so righteously proved for me.
Thanks for the list of all the crap teams the Pats play this year.
1Colts No "D"
2Cardinals No anything "O", "D", or special teams
3 Everybody wins when they play this team
4.Bills Number 2 ranked "D" last year. How far did that carry them into the playoffs? Hell my Vikings had the number one ranked offense last year and look how far they went into the playoffs. This has all the makings of a 10-6 game and you'd better believe the Pats will have the 10
5.Dolphins Ah yes! watch the mighty offensive juggernaut roll! (snicker snicker)
6.Seahawks Can't win on the road and I think the Pats are a better team despite the 'Hawks being a fashionable pick among the experts.
7.Jets Who knows. Not good last year and major changes on defense. Certainly not able to be called an elite team at this point. Although I do like Pennington alot.
8Steelers Questionable D and although they are going back to the run the Pats can stop running teams. Look at the halftime corrections they made to clamp down on James last night. Thats solid coaching by the way.
9Rams PUH LEASE this team is going to have the biggest fall off in the NFC You'd better believe that O line won't do a good job and Chandler will start a few games this year until he is injured also. Their defense is mighty suspect also.
10See number 4
11 Chiefs? You mean the same Chiefs who couldn't even force a punt against Indy in the AFC Divisional playoffs? The Chiefs who have all of the exact same players who couldn't do it last year?
12. I don't think these guys are going to have much of an offense this year (again) but what the hell! They had Trent Dilfer and won a Superbowl. This D is going to be the biggest challenge the Pats face all year.
They Pats are gonna have a good record again this year and probably win their division. The only potential challenger they have is the Jets and no one really knows how good they are going to be.
As far as you going by so called "Expert Opinions" check how many guys picked the Patriots too even make the Superbowl last year. I follow all the sports websites and I know. ESPN, NFL.com, Sportsline, Foxsports, PFW. one and only one guy picked the Patriots to make the big game and that was Gil Brandt of NFL.com. So much for "expert opinion"
And to whatever nut job said the Patriots have no "D" you have got to be on crack.

The Colts defense surrendered on average 299 yards per game and 21 points per game last year. That's about the 20th ranked defense. Not great, but not horrible. Try duct tape on that leaky drain of yours.
...
By the same token, wouldn't this give him less receivers to which to throw? And doesn't this mean he is less likely to have a receiver with single coverage? And don't other teams more easily recognize this max protection scheme in calling their defensive schemes?

I love ya Colonel and I respect your opinions, but ya have to make up your mind here. Is he...
a. "Dude is a slightly above average QB at best"
b. "The dude is a good QB"
You keep bouncing around like this and we may find ya on the Kerry/Edwards campaign trail

oh and, He let his salary ride from what I read to help the team stay under the cap and allow Ty Law to remain. He throws with precision and power, he steps into each pass regardless of the rush, he can move and run, he reads the field well and he can take a hit.
I like the fact that players on our team have taken salary losses to win and that they play extremely well together. Once we got rid of Terry Glenn it's been all team and I like it. Maybe everyone has forgotten about all the clutch drives that put us into winning situations.
What's not to like?

Um..actually the Bengals had an incredible season last year. They were one of the most improved teams. Being a Steelers fan I don't like 'em, but you've got to give them credit. They have a good coach and no where to go but up...I think they'll be a surprise team this year.
The Pats greatest strength is the Coach. He can go into halftime and completely re-tool the game plan as well as anyone out there.
