Guide to Rome: Total War

Postby ShellShock » Sat Oct 02, 2004 6:56 pm

Fargo of Gamespy fame has written an excelent 33-page guide to Rome: Total War. I suggest anyone interested in the game (such as myself) to give it a read.

Thanks..I"m going to get the demo, but it this game is as good as everyone says, then I think I'll have to buy it. I've done a ton of independant study of the Roman empire and have a lot of books on it, so a high quality game would be great.

I've played the demo and it's pretty fun. The graphics are great! I've heard the city development side is also excellent. All in all the reviews say this is an excellent game.

I might have to pick up a copy.

As someone with the game I can say it's a great game if you like historical strategy games. But and this is a big BUTT. The game is buggy as hell in my opinion. There are a ton of people out there (myself included) having serious crash/lockup issues on this game that pretty much take all the fun out of the game. From my estimates CA and Activision are not planning on addressing it either as they have not said a word since but rather suggesting the cause to be user's systems instead of the game itself. I'd say wait for a patch (if there is one) to come out before buying or if youre feeling lucky go for it just don't say I didn't warn you.

Oh the demo worked flawlessly for me but the retail game crashes constantly on me, basically halting any campaign progress.

Sorry to hear that Mazz. I played this game all weekend and found no problems so far. Hopefully, no problems will arise.

Now, if I could just have a son and not 4 daughters. :D

I have had one CTD in about 40-50 hours of playing. I really like the game. The demo is cool but it covers only the tactical battles. The overalll strategy map reminds me of Civilization. It is lots of fun.
