Floaties are frowned upon at the pool. They inhibit a child from using their arms for forward motion. Whilst keeping them afloat, it doesn't help them learn to swim. Use a PFD!
I bet if it is a "floatie" that looks like a Baby Ruth candy bar, they[the children] are not so inhibited in their movement. At least they can quickly develop their back stroke.

I got a medal in a national maths competion by doing exactly that. Random box ticking. I got 45 out of a hundred and it got me a bronze medal, I guess it must have been a difficult test if you actually tried
