NHL could possibly disband.

Certainly affecting me and my friends a lot seeing that we all play hockey about 4-5 times a week, and no NHL certainly sucks for us.
Most of the people i know though, don't talk or care really much about it so most Americans could care less.

Since I'm misplaced from my Missouri home (I'm in the military), I keep up with the Blues as much as I can.
While here in Wichita we have the CHL which is like a minor league. The Wichita Thunder are now 7-0 and looking unstoppable, but there is still a lot of season to go.
As far as the players and sports are concerned...I think most players are payed too much. I think all sports players should be capped at a max of $200,000 a year. It's ridiculous to see someone make so much money for playing a game.

I kinda agree with you... but if you look at it this way: They are entertainers of sort. Professional athletes at that level are few and far between (if you compare them to the general populous). How much are actors worth? Is thier job worth millions per picture or show?
Millions of fans all over the world want to see these guys and follow sports religously.
Now, you can argue this point by saying fans are rooting for thier team or for the "sweater" or jersey and not the actual player. Especially these days when players no longer are loyal to specific teams anymore. How many pros are from the farm team and end up playing most of their career with the team that drafted them?
I happen to agree with the latter... that you root for the team, not the individual. It is up to the coaches to develope from within and through good draft decisions.

thanks to Spirit of Me for the sig!

They get paid awesome amounts because they generate incredible amounts of revenue for their respective leagues. They bring millions of people out to games, and to buy merchandise.
Did none of you take economics? Just because they don't pour concrete doesn't mean they dont deserve what they get.
They do. Just like movie stars. You know when you hire Arnold that you will have a pretty good chance of making a good profit even after paying him. Its called business
I do, however, beleive MLB needs a salary cap for teams or its going to be a 1 or 2 team season every year.

I do think some players make too much money such as A-Rod with the 256M deal that he got with the Texas Rangers. As a whole athletes spend their whole lives training to play the sport that they excel in (unless your Prime Time, and play in the MLB and NFL at the same time). They work a lot harder then most people do, and even during the off season they weight train and excercise a ton. Also they spend a lot of time away from their families etc...Im certainly not saying that its not worth playing for that kind of money, but it isn't all as great as it seems for most of the guys that make a million or a two a year and have to miss Christmas and birthdays away from their families. Much like the soldiers in Iraq, only they aren't being paid as much.

They get paid big salaries because they demand them, and ticket/product prices skyrocket because of this.
I agree that they deserve a decent salary, but I think $200K a year is plenty to play a GAME. I understand that it is entertainment and I enjoy watching it as well as the next person, but I'd have to agree that I root for the team and not the player. Players change teams year in and year out.
200K max cap for each player would still make everything reasonable, plus any endorsements they may or may not get. For the general player, this salary would be a better living than they would normally get.
I just think it's plain ridiculous that movie stars and athletes demand the outrageous salaries that they do. One million dollars for some of the bigger names I can understand. But some of these people get over 20 million dollars for a film and similar stuff for athletes. Then people have to pay $7 to $10 at a movie for a ticket (of course the theaters don't help matters any) and same for the inflated prices at sporting events as well.
Just my rant though...

Go to an AHL game [ you still have that up there don't you ] Isn't their a good college squad somewhere there? I mean it's not DU- my college team of choice but go to something and get your ya-yas out.
And look on the bright side. You don't have to play Calgary till next year if the NHL is able to get going again anyway.
