He was really the last link between the recent past and that old school vaudville style variety hour that died out in the 50s/60s
I used to love watching Carson re-runs after school when I was a teenager.
For those that never heard of him, he had a variety show that aired late at night, it was mix of different things, interviews with celebrities or other interesting people, musical acts, comedy skits, stand up comedians, along with occasional Circus style perfomers (juggling, animal acts, etc)

I am sorry, but it doesn't matter what country you are from.. Johnny Carson is known throughout the world. If you don't know who he is, you are probably very, very young. Or... have been living in a cabin in the woods with no contact at all from the outside world for the last 30 years.![]()
sorry, but really nobody heared about him overhere.
Still, if he was an icon for talk shows, atleast I can do is taking a moment of silence

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.

That would be typical of the way he played people. Teased dave for years about taking over the show. Then hands it over to Leno, only to write for dave.
None the less he was good at what he did.

Actually, he wanted David Letterman to take over the show, but the network overruled him.
This is the reason why he sent his material to Dave instead of Leno.
Dave would have made a great replacement!
