China could wipe us out with their 5billion strong marching in napoleonic lines across the ocean, firing muskets... Its like the ants... shear numbers game. We just need to be aware of the signs of danger: When "Spensers" stops getting rubber doggie poo, then ask yourself WWJD?

Just my two cents. Still a hell of a feat to get that baby back :)

There are two types of SONAR used commonly. The first is passive (where there are no "pings" just active listening to the water using very sensitive equipment). Active SONAR utilizes "pings" to actively track targets. Usually this is not used except when needed. Our torpedoes can be wire guided so that up until a the point of impact, they can be controlled to the target and then set to 'active' so they can lock on with their own SONAR and take out the target. Basically, if the target doesn't hear the torpedo because they are making too much noise, our torpedoes can sneak up on them and at the last minute turn active and destroy the target. The enemy would never know what was coming.

Also, because you don't go around actively pinging the crap out of the ocean. That's one way to be located and killed. ANY sub in the wrong waters can be legally shot at by the enemy.

Next time go into Chinese waters with a nuclear sub with your SONAR turned up and tell me what happens.

When you ping you take a gamble. NO one gambles with a boomer.

Forget the Sonar, they shoulda packed their Hiking gear.

"uncharted under water mountain" yea right... i think they found those missing Russian Subs that were sold black market.
