MPAA gets major win in court
hi all,
i like to give my two cents to this thread:
like savage, i paid for all my cd's and at the moment, sorry for the harsh words, i'm pissed of with the mi. i like good music and i'm more than willing to pay the price for it. but, what i'm not willing to pay for is, that this industry sells me cd's in a cd-format, that my 1500 € home cd-player isn't able to play because of the corrupted cd-formats they sell.
as long, as they aren't able to sell cd's with a correct format that all players are able to play, i'm out with this branch of industry.
moreover, their witch-hunt for illegal copies has gone that far, that the government support a policy (because of their whining), that any copy for private use (e.g. for my car player) is now almost impossible, because of bypassing the copy protection (and most of the cd's which are sold are copy protected) for private use is illegal !!! that fact criminalize me, my family, my friends and all the other people, that paid for the music. what the fuck is that?
the result of all this is, that the major labels will not get any € from me as long as this situation continues or they remove the copy protection from music cd's.
the psychological strain for mi is yet not high enough. when it its high enough, they maybe will discover, that we, the customers, who pay for their product, run their business, not the kids or students who download music, which aren't able to pay for cd's in high number of pieces.
as long as they sell smash-hit-samplers to kids for 35 to 40€ !!!!, it's not a surprise to me, that this cd's were downloaded or copied tenthousand times. what kid at the age of 14 to 18 (one of the mayor consumer groups) have the money to buy 2 or 3 of that high priced cd's a month?
as evan said
the majority of the mi is inflexible in a way, that is near to being schizophrenic. instead of distributing songs for low prices over internet, the mi wasn't and isn't able to adjust their channels of distribution according to the internet age for more than 5 years now. they came up with the development of digital right, digital water marks, pay for hear and some more bs. good bless the music. sorry jt, i will not pay for music, that only runs on my computer and only on that one. no digital rights for me. it's like owning a car, that is able to drive on one street only.
ok, let them eradicate all d'loaders, send them to jail, hang them, burn them as witches or whatever. do you think, the mi will sell one more cd or dvd? if you think that, you are a complete fool in my opinion, sorry.
and if they got bankrupted from this situation: who cares? in my opinion this is whining on a very, very high level.
as i said, only my two cents.
greetings

same with downloaded music - it doesn't impact the sales of CD's.

It's all perspective and opinion. You haven't come to this understanding yet in life? I can form my own opinion and it will differ from yours.
The problem is that it's merely an argument with you and it's all your looking for. Yes they are opinions and we as a people can have our own and it can differ from yours. I have no need for flames or an argument with you.
Nothing constructive has or will come from this thread.
Sigh. It isn't perspective and opinion. It is fact and opinion. Investigate it yourself. You openly admit this is what you 'feel,' not what you found out or read about.

You will find that the new versions on new media are remastered. Like I pointed out with SACD, SACD is 24 bit wordlengths, redbook CD is 16 bit wordlengthes. It has to be remastered, it isn't the same recording just copied over like you claim. Your opinion can not change that fact. Why argue otherwise becuase it is 'your opinion?'
Technology advances itself. There are hundreds of new formats being worked on right now. Only a hand full will become viable, and of that handfull, a select few will be selected by the industries to adobt. Those select few will have input from the industries that will be using them, from storage size to laser type to the connections(HDMI1.0, DVI-D, etc).

ok, one last statement to this thread from me:
you insist on facts jt, not opinions?
ok, here are the facts:
ALL copy protected cd's or dvd's are of a non-standard format. No copy protected cd or dvd is like red-book, yellow-book, CD-XA or any other standard format.
NOT ALL copy protected cd's or dvd's runs on any player.
these are the facts. i'm paying money for a product, that maybe or maybe not runs on my home player, car player, cd-rom, dvd-player etc.. and if it doesn't, i won't get my money back, because the packaging has been opened .... sorry if it doesn't run on your player, but it is not our fault. you opened the packaging so it's up to you ...
paying money for a nonconforming-product. nothing more to say about THIS fact.
POINT.
Your still rambling?

This has to be exclusive to Germany or Europe. I have never seen anything like this. Even 'copy protected' cd's are easy to burn(you earlier stated something like it wasn't for you).
Now, a SACD will not play on a regular CD player unless it is a hybred disc with a redbook layer. HDCD's(either 18 or 20 bit, forget which) play on regular CD players but you do not get the HDCD resolution, only redbook resolution.
from your statement it seems to me, that this could be the fact.
copying protected cd's for private use in europe is not easy, as most of the cd-readers (regardless if it is a cd-rom or dvd-rom) resist even reading them. and, i'm not in the mood to buy every six months a new reader for making copies
.
seems to me, that us-cd's are sold less copy protected than here in germany (mark: should thought about buying my cd's at the states
.). and i knew too, that SACD wouldn't run on any player
.
could it be, that the mayor us labels had identified the source of illegal downloaders

Yeah, US cd's and DVD's are easy to burn. I copy almost all of my CD's right off the bat(I have over 300, and a very nice home theater/stereo) and need Cd's in both my car and home.
In the US you are allowed to copy the disc as long as you do not give it or sell it to anyone. When you copy, with say Nero Burning Rom, it says 'disc is copy protected....copying CD.'
It reconizes the copy protection, but it means nothing in the end.
If in Europe that you have some many different versions of RedBook CD audio, then tht is indeed messed up. Here in the states there is CD(redbook), HDCD, and SACD. There are also DTS discs and DVDAudio. There is also an engineering set for redbook audio, XRCD, but any CD player can play it. XRCD is in the engineering of the audio to the CD, it helps to take out many of the problems of taking a live sound and putting it to a digital format. I have 1 XRCD(an XRCD24, there are 3 types of XRCD), and it sounds 10x better than the same redbook CD I have. Instruments are more layered, better detail and a more airy sound.
