New Calif. bill would curb violent video game sales
Mon Feb 14, 2005 03:00 PM ET
LOS ANGELES, Feb 14 (Reuters) - A California legislator will introduce a bill this week to ban the sale or rental of violent video games to minors, a spokesman for the lawmaker said on Monday.

Leland Yee, a member of the California state Assembly and a child psychologist by training, failed to get a similar bill approved by the legislature last year.

The measure would amend the state's definition of material that is "harmful matter to children" to include video games that "depict serious injury to human beings in a manner that is especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel."....

I can't wait for the BF42 paintball mod.

this is ridiculous. commom sense and that fact you should never harm real human beings starts in the home.
It is ok as a child to have an affinity towards blood, violence, horror movies, etc. Heck, when I was a kid, all I did was draw pictures of zombies, people with limbs ripped off, we played war games, i loved all sorts of gory stuff, etc.. .And I turned out fine as did my friends..
Ok you can stop laughing now... :)
These people want to intoduce legislation as an excuse because they are, to put it simply, bad parents. They don't want to be bothered with thier kids and spend the time with them it requires to teach them normal, good values. So they want the government to do it instead.

beyond that, it's all bullshit politics. entertainment (video games) is an ever increasing market in the tens of billions annually or some odd now right? but until somebody buys off congress (a la guns, tobacco, pharm groups) we'll continue to see this moral card played, like people shouldn't be responsible for their children's health anyway. EA just needs to contribute to somebody's re-election campaign and they'll leave us alone :D

Now that Microsoft is heavily in the game arena, I doubt any legislation of this sort will EVER pass. :D
