Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I've been doing a little reading because the topic is an interesting one. I think we can agree that on any level different perspectives can help us gain a better understanding of things.

We would have most likely listened to what you said had you not been ramming it down our throats. Has it ever occurred to you that maybe you should try to be a bit more approachable and a little less self-righteous?

If you would listen a little you would find that there are many people around these forums that are guaranteed to have some insight to offer concerning any topic. Some thoughts that might be able to co-exist with your truth.

Hey man if it's re-mastered, re-worked or a new work and if it draws me in then I'll lay some money down so I can enjoy it and the creators can benefit. However if it's the same cracker in a new wrapper then all bets are off. That’s my angle on the situation. Take it for what it is.

In this industry the tables have turned somewhat in the consumers favor and it feels damn good. Yes I live within the epitome of capitalism, yes with the right equipment the album the tape and the cd all sound pretty much the same and yes a little bit of good ole Robin Hood payback is called for from time to time.

Power to my wallet!

BWAHAHA! Thats precious Jeffro!

I'll say this for Jimmy. He's fun (for me) to argue against. Thats because he will run off at the mouth just to argue but thats cool. I'm pretty damn dense also and will continue to argue myself even when I realize the entire conversation no longer serves any purpose whatsoever.

So here's a quote for Jimmy.

"Here's an idea. When you tell these little stories of yours it helps to have a point!"
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." ... Benjamin Franklin

I always though of it as more foaming at the mouth :)

But it's so much more fun to quote obscure sources than to define and rationally argue a case...

This coming from the guy that still, to this day and despite knowing better, starts political threads. Heck, you are rarely ever posting here except for when you start those posts.

For the last two pages I have been doing nothing but laughing at you guys. Yesterday moring I even sent a little IM with a link to this thread to cowboy004 saying 'watch me piss everyone off.'

It's been nothing but me laughing getting your guys' panties all in a bunch. Why? Because it is fun.

Oh yeah, and your opinion still doesn't trump fact.

No ones pissed. It sounds like most find your unbending stubbornness hilarious. I attempted to meet you half way, but I knew you would have no part of it. Your loss mate.

Oh yeah, and your opinion still doesn't trump fact.

Man you really just don't get it.

In short, you are nothing but a forum troll...

Isn't that grounds for banishment?

How does that happen?

I know I'll get flamed by tango.

Still how can say a "cd" advance itself?

Tango used that saying more than once in this thread.

How I think technology advances is by people designing new technologies, what some would call inventors.

In the US you are allowed to copy the disc as long as you do not give it or sell it to anyone. When you copy, with say Nero Burning Rom, it says 'disc is copy protected....copying CD.'

Actually you are wrong, you are not allowed to copy copy protected cd's or copy protected dvd's.
Just because you can do it, does not mean it is legal.

Federal law states you have the right to make backup copies as long as you don't sell or distribute them.

But look at what happened to DVD Xcopy. They had to remove the ability to decrypt css encryption. However now I see packages again offering it.

I use two free apps to backup my DVDs, especially the kids copies. I found a copy of The Goonies face down on my sons floor. What's nice is that it was only a Ridata copy and not the original.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - This is the Pre-Ban software that was released before the injunction against DVD X Copy. This version does include the ripper which has been banned by the US Courts. Legal - It is legal for us to sell all remaining stock of the DVD X Copy. Once we sell out, we will no longer carry this product. We will not be held liable for any misuse of this product.

disclaimer from a website selling the old version. I'm having trouble locating their website. It seems the lawsuit drove the company under and the remaining software packages are being sold out.

There is plenty of software out there to backup legally owned copies of your movies, but it seems the issue is up in the air. It's weird because we can make copies of tapes and cds all day long without a pending lawsuit.

Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), a law enacted in 1998, it is illegal to circumvent copy protection.

Just because you can copy that cd or dvd that has copy protection on it, does not make it legal.

So Jimmy, are you going to keep on copying those copy protected cd's?

Whether or not we do circumvent the copyright protection or not, we have a legal right to make backup copies.
