laptop fans
Hey I have a 17in widescreen HP pavilion laptop.
Specs:
Pent 4
3.0GHz
DVD/CD-RW
512MB DDR-DRAM
60GB hard drive
integrated 802.11g wireless
64MB DDR dedicatred vid mem
For the past couple months my fans have been running more and louder than normal. I have't added much of anything and would like to make this thing run more quiet, any ideas?
Also, yaDad, you had mentioned programs to help tweak startup and what not....any links to these? Maybe that would help.

I'd say not running wolf in lectures would probably be a good idea;)
if you're running only "normal" desktop applications like word, excel e.g., i suggest cpu idle. it brings down my router pc (AMD K6 550) to 25 °C cpu-temperature during normal workload. for you, it maybe could be able to prevent your fan from running wild
as i don't know how old your hp lap is, it also could be possible, that the ball-bearing of your fan is ruined. if that is the fact, i suggest to buy a new one, preferably one from papst, as they build the best, and most quiet, fans i know imho. if you know the size of your fan, you can browse here PAPST for the appropiate size and voltage.
