pop ups?

Postby Tommy Boy » Fri Mar 18, 2005 10:11 pm

I use Mozilla and my wife uses IE on the same computer. Guess what? I can't get rid of popups for her when she opens IE.

I have done a complete spybot, awara and norton anti-virus check and i still get them. Any ideas how I can remove the seemingly unremoveable?

I would appreciate any help....

what os do you have?

if xp, do you have SP2? That takes care of many of them.

If not try Google Toolbar (or MSN or Yahoo) these all block POP ups.

If you have trie dthese then the problem could be an ADware program in a startup that Spybot or even adaware does not detect yet. In general about three new adware programs are created each day. be sure to update each time you use the anti-spy software.

hope this helps.

Tommy for those really hard to kill browser hijackers and
other spyware use this program. "hijackthis"
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Beware this is a very powerful program but if used right
along with Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware it can
clean up your computer.
Follow the programs instructions carefully, read the forums
to learn how to use "hijackthis".

I'm not even going to read any of the replies; I.E. is garbage and Mozilla (firefox in my case) is what real men use, 'nuff said.

Tommy, one other thing to do is down load AVG Free Edition.
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_avg_new_free_edition.php

It might pick up on malware/spyware that Norton might
have missed. Don't run them both at the same time,
(AVG, Norton).

You might find you like AVG better, some say Norton and
Macfee are bloated software. (uses up system resources)

AVG is one of the least resource hungry AV programs out
there, imo. (and it's free)

Maybe you can get Spirit Of Me or Chacal to comment.
They are experts when it comes to computer stuff.

ok, this is driving me crazy...I must not have a pop up per se because the popup blocker does not prevetn it.

Whem my wife goes into IE, she gets a second window of crap (ad) that goes over top the window that we are viewing. I don't think that it originates from the site, but from the computer somewhere....

Spyware, AVG, Norton and Ad Aware all have not removed it and I guess the Tom Coyote one right?

If you have any other thoughts, please help. When I use Mozilla, of course, I get nothing.

I am going crazy!

I think your only option is destroying the computer... or suicide, whichever tickles your fancy more.
