I have to say I admire the creators of this commercial (very bold). It does not surprise me nobody will put it on the air. It is harsh.

It's a dry read, but it shows the US isn't the mine boogeyman we're made out to be. We stopped producing antipersonel mines in 1997, stopped selling them in 1992. We do have a huge stockpile of them. We might as well just sign the treaty and get it over with as we don't really rely on land mines that much. Really nobody uses them in a major way anymore. Most of the landmines doing all damage are 1970s and 1980s deployments from the cold war proxy fighting between the US and Russia. I'm not saying that nobody uses them at all, just that the level of usage is so low that we might as well just drop them altogether.

Yeah, it should be shown, especially when you consider that the networks don't mind bombarding us with useless sh*t 24/7, god forbid they do something responsible.
Love those excuses: 60 seconds is too long, advocacy isn't allowed. WTFa are the anti-smoking, anti-drug PSA's if not advocacy.

Anti-personel/anti-tank makes no difference. An anti-tank mine will go off just as easily as an antipersonnel mine afer a few years of rusting...

I'm not arguing in favor of mines, just disputing the oft repeated rhetoric I usually hear whent the subject of mines comes up. I usually hear someone complaining that the US is selling millions of mines to countries all over the world, present day.
As far as I'm concerned, the US should sign the treaty and get rid of the mines. They don't have any significant military value and the civilian cost later are not acceptable or warranted.
