John Stewart rips on Cable News

Postby cavalierlwt » Fri May 20, 2005 5:06 pm

I love this guy and his crusade against our worthless news media !

I'm afraid all the news stations are going to get together and have Stewart killed, he's really tearing their ass up this year.

He hates cnn after going on crossfire and being ridiculed by the "prick in the bow-tie." Seeing John get furious over the fact that they were under the impression the daily show was a news program, and instead of a very funny cable tv show was absoulutley hilarious

Here's a link to that in case people haven't seen it:

I guess Tucker Carlson (the bow tie guy) got dropped recently, and the head of CNN cited Stewarts appearance and the subsequent media blitz around it as one of the reasons. Apparently the 'viral distribution' of the news clip (it was hosted, posted, mirrored, bit torrented, emailed like crazy) made them feel like it was a backlash against the show.

I love the point Stewart makes, these guys have abandoned journalism in favor of entertainment. Even to this day, Crossfire is nothing more than two guys spewing the same Right/Left catch phrases over and over, and then calling that a 'debate'

It's hilarious that after getting burned by blogs they've turned to simply reading blogs off of computer screens. Sad really.
They actually re-enact each day of the Michael Jackson trial, with lookalike actors and all. Then they 'analyze' each minute of it. For every hour they spend entertaining, analyzing (aka, spinning the news) that is an hour that should have been spent on the real news.

That's a common complaint I've heard from Canadians who lived in the US: absence of real news, replaced by infotainment. Lots of them sneak dishes in so they can catch canadian and european news.

I usually go to BBC's web page, and if I'm driving a lot, I'll catch NPR (National Public Radio) which is pretty good with explaining some of the world news in more depth.

The "news" media here in the states blows chunks. It is really a shame.

Oh yeah, one more thing, JS rocks.

It makes it real tough for a free-market fan like myself to reconcile the poor quality of commercial TV news versus the quality of public funded organizations like the BBC and NPR.

Yeah, in the case of news media, it's one of the exceptions to the rule. The need for ratings leads to tailoring the news for a target demographics. My guess is they are mostly aiming for senior citizens, bored housewives, and in the case of Fox News, the more polarized viewer (sort of like talk radio). If Air America ever makes it to TV they will fall into the polarized category and would be the flip side of Fox.

Ironic, a common american complaint ive heard from Americans exiled in Canada, is that the Canadian Technical force parade around in Darth Vader Masks while getting owned in the BattleField Franchise.

I was flipping channels and I saw fox news channel "reporting" on liberal media news bias and I was like: are you fucking kidding me?

This is isn't news, it's just blatent bashing of another political side...

That Dark Side hack is overrated. Didn't do much for my aim.

C'mon Jeffro, everyone knows Fox is purely objective and unbiased. That gives them the right to judge other channels.
