Just installed new video card

Postby sgtslaught42 » Wed May 18, 2005 4:33 pm

I just installed a new video card and the game was absolutely flying when I was testing it last night. I felt like my dude was on crack or something!!! Much fun to finally be getting a better kill ratio when dueling. Well anyway with all good there must be bad. I kept getting "Connection Interrupted" messages ever since changing the video card. I'm not sure if this was something going on with the server, but the coincidence of me having just installed a new card seems too likely that it was probably just me. It doesn't make sense to me how changing the video card could effect my network connection, but I will yeild to the experts in this forum. Is there some network changes in the configs that I should change now that I have a kick ass video card?

Does a strong vid card really affect your overall performance? I mean i heard it did but didn't know by how much.

yeah it does.. it is the total opposite for me. I went from a 128 mb card to an intergraded card.. my kill ratio dropped from 4.50 to 1.83. It doesnt help when ur frames per seconds are in the teens. When they used to be in the 100's.

new card

card is an ati radeon 9250 256MB pci. I used to be using just the integrated video on my machine. I ran the docs back twice last night and have probably only run them back only 5 or 6 times in hundreds of rounds. It also made a huge difference when dueling where in the past I was getting totally used, I'm now about 50/50.

Does it affect your ping in anyway?

No ping is solely connection based, has nothing to do with your hardware. I also just upgraded from an Nvidia 4200ti 128mb to a Nvidia 6600GT 128MB and i stay at 125FPS almost all the time anywhere on beach (i have it capped at 125).

Thanks for the kind words Slaughter. It is similar to practicing running with weights on your feet. Once you get used to competing with the weights on, it feels like I'm flying now that the weights have come off. I've also noticed that the game definitely moves much faster for me when there are less players on the server.
