Tech woes from Daylight-saving switch?

Postby Spirit of Me » Sun Aug 07, 2005 5:16 pm

What do you folks think? Image

Daylight-saving switch may cause tech woes

NEW YORK (AP) - When daylight-saving time starts earlier than usual in the United States come 2007, your VCR or DVD recorder could start recording shows an hour late.

Cell phone companies could give you an extra hour of free weekend calls, and people who depend on online calendars may find themselves late for appointments. ...

it just seems like such a bad idea. The pros do not out-weigh the cons IMO.

First: Job security for the techies
Second: they should have learned from Y2K and anticipated this. The world is going to be around for quite some time and this won't be the last.
Third: I don't care I still have all my Y2K/huricane supplies because the world didn't come to an end last time.

Oh and finally  and don't worry about it

Love it.

My question is do you think it will save energy by doing this?

Right now we are on PST, or west coast time. But once the rest of the country "falls back" in the Fall, we move to Mountain. And vice versa for "Spring Forward". So our clocks never need to be changed... just the world. :P

It won't affect me in any way. When the DST hits, I don't even bother to adjust any of my clocks. I just let everything be wrong for half year. It's my solution to most problems: just ignore them, they will probably go away eventually.

how big is the move? a day, week, month? won't the "digital mayham" only last for like however long it is? and can't people just add/subtract an hour themselves for that amount of time??

same for my province. not changing is a pain in the ass though. TV shows come on at different times, we don't gain any daylight hours, yadda yadda yadda. would just be easier if we changed with everyone else.
