New ULi M-1695 Chipset

Postby MoDyna » Fri Jul 15, 2005 2:08 pm

Hey gang!

Here is an interesting read on the new chipset from ULi that competes with the best Nvidia has out right now. Be sure to read the conclusions on last page of link below:

The thing I love about this new chipset is that it combines an PCIe and AGP 8x slot on the same board with no compromises. This allows us poor folks an oppo to upgrade to a AMD 64 socket 939 board now and still use that functional AGP card and not lose the PCIe upgrade path later. It even offers the possibility of using both a PCIe and AGP card at the same time. Only a reference board has come out at this time, but look for products from mobo manufacturers soon with all sorts of interesting combinations and solutions.

Anyway if your looking to upgrade to a PCIe mobo like I am, this certainly deserves your consideration.

Update - http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2489&p=1

I will be watching this. I would like to take my 6800GT AGP card and put it on a AMD 64 939 board at some point. It will be nice to have the option to later on go to PCI without having to get a new mobo.

P.S. I hit 600!

Yep, I'm watching this board too, I want to keep my 9800pro
for a bit longer, then switch to a faster vid card later.

Thanks for the post Jim, I had not read that article until now, but if nothing else maybe ULi will force the other chipset makers to match ULi's moves. Better for us all around. :)

Great article.. I spotted that several days ago. Here is another article about the ULI chipset from Tom's Hardware.

I'm seriously considering this board as well. That and the AMD 939, X2 3800+, which is supposed to be an awesome overclocker. Check out this link.

I have had my eyes on this chipset for some time.

Just picked up a brand new X800XL AGP for $184 and I am thinking this MB will be my next upgrade, when I move from P4 to A64.
