My (Mostly) ECGN highlight movie

Postby Nofx » Sat Aug 13, 2005 4:52 pm

Hey guys, I put together a movie of some good times at the Beach. Probably 80% of the clips are from ECGN (some Tao, Beetlejz, and a few others), so you might be able to spot yourself. I tried to include everything: All different weapons (except flamer), classes, situations, oldschool and new clips, etc. Its all from my perspective (ie I'm doing the kiling). Check it out at:

http://files.filefront.com/Nofxbeach/;4038102;;/fileinfo.html

The file is about only about 100mb but 20mins long, so the quality is not that great. You can still see whats going on, but you might not be able to read the text. The editing is also a bit rough, but I wanted to show off the clips, not my weak editing skills.

Let me know what you guys think!

ps. also if anyone plays World of Warcraft, check out my 60mage pvp movie at:

I'm dl'ing now. As far as quality goes, I've noticed that it's harder for most compression schemes (like divx, windows media, etc) to get good quality than it is to get a good quality encode of real life video/movies etc. I think it might be due to the way game developers make games look better, often by softening, blending borders and giving a smoky effect to the air in an attempt to make it look 'realistic'. Video compression has a tough time with exactly that type of picture, anyone with digital cable might have noticed scenes with soft focus, smoky air etc wind up looking horrible and blocky for a moment.

Ah sounds like you know a fair amount about video editing. I'm still just learning. I do know that for years (mostly for Quake III vids), I've seen incredible videos from http://www.own-age.com, and the resolution of alot of the videos there are so detailed and crisp (even better than my computer can even play the game at). The files are reasonable size too, so there has to be some trick to it I'm missing. On the other hand, I don't intend to be making movies often, so I guess its not worth my time doing the research :P

You can see the speed in the bottom left corner (timescale). Its not like I'm trying to hide it (cmon, a doc run from beach in 15 secs? lol), it is blatantly obvious. I figured speeding up the slower parts still lets you get the jist of whats going on. There are a few parts where i slow down the time for 'dramatic effect' too. Also...I'm a little embarrased to admit this, but alot of it was because I'm using the shareware version of fraps, which only lets me record in tiny chunks of time :P Yes, I'm cheap and won't cough up the $30 for the real program.

And if anyone's curious as to why my crosshair dot appears even when I'm sniping, its because its actually just a big dot I drew onto the movie, lol. My regular crosshairs wouldn't show up with the resolition/quality of the video.

And I agree to the glory days, lol. Rtcw sure is a different nowadays.

I'll check 'em out, see if can tell what they're doing. I've recently upgraded my computer, and turned my old computer in a 'mediaPC' which I intend to play all my dvds (after I convert them all to Divx), so I've been playing around with compression stuff lately. Editing I don't know too much about. Your video is good BTW. The speach at the beginning is an interesting choice. The fast-motion part at the end where you're outnumbered and win would make a good video on it own.

Trying to read the text was giving me a headache man.

What i did notice was that waste character, you know the one that goes on and on about how pimp he is come around the corner a couple times....and never even get a shot off LOL. but in Wolf its the spirit that counts.

As awsome as the BF series is/could be (after about 3 patches) nothing compares to the 'beating on ur keyboard & mouse' thrill of wolf, and Activision is fucking nuts if they dont continue the adventure.

OK current ambassaders of wolf can we get a Duh?, a LMAO, a :lock:, a :)
