So i found this and thought it looked very interesting. I like the retro/original shaped console! I might pick this up for some good, classic arcade fun! This is available 10/4.

Also, this thing is really an Atari 2600 without a cart port.

But, if you are good with a soldering iron, you can mod it to play 2600 cart games.

thanks Mugzy. that review looks promising! I can't wait to pick one up.
I dont understand the whole hacking thing though. why would someone go through the effort of doing this just so they can play thier own, original cartridges? when there are 40 games available that come with the system? and risk damaging the unit. to each his own i guess.

Because it has a composite video output.

Just build one of these and you can play all those Atari games and every arcade game you ever stuck a quarter in as a kid.

Seriously, you can find most of those online if you look hard enough.

I enjoy playing with emulators... but do NOT have a MAME cabinet. Wouldn't even know where the hell to put one. But, there's just something about the feel of the old Atari joysticks and even just seeing the console (albeit scaled down) that would really lend to that nostalgic feeling. And $29 isn't that bad at all.

no, I'll admit the price is right for that.

However, an Atari emulator is free. The ROMs for it (including other developers, ie, Activision), would be less than $29 for a bundled set that would probably number in the 100s. The only thing missing would be the old joysticks.

Ahh, the power of nostalgia. If only I had known (as a youth) that I would someday want to surround myself with all of those familiar objects. Atari 2600, Intellivision, Commodore 64, they were all so great, even with their hardware limitations.
