The control over your units in both 1 and 2 was diabolically bad. I also can't help thinking that even 3 looks inferior to Rome Total War. Don't think I am gonna invest...
death bob i found the AI to be guiet good, when i put it on hard or even moderate i was getting my ass handed to me. and i know how to play games like that, they where what i played before i got into FPS's. i started playing RTS when red alert one came out and it takes alot for a game to beat me. but this one did almost every time.
and Jimmy i totaly agree that Civ 4 is going to kick ass and be way better than AOE 3.

I used to find with the other age of empires that the control and dicipline of your troops when you weren't expressly monitoring them was pathetic. The amount of times I would be fighting on one front only to discover that the bulk of my army, which I had left in reserve, had been lured by a single enemy horseman into attacking the enemies main base. Needless to say they would be quickely slaughtered. Other times they would stand there as enemy catapults attacked them and show no signs of the same attacking impetus and likewise get massacred. It really got on my last nerve.
For battles you can't beat Rome Total War, the battles in that game were great.

Did the computer rush you? The comp. rushed me and defeated me early before I learned how to use my cards. Then I just built an army that could fend off his little attacks and sent it into hit base. It didn;t even use the trading posts and would only build one kind of unit no matter what I used.
I also think the comp. cheats.

Really wouldn't surprise me. I think they cut corners with the AI in the other so I wouldn't expect better of the latest one.
Can't make the AI good enough? Fix it by letting it cheat...
