big dilemma
I got through high school by only skimming the material I was supposed to study the morning before a test. I know this won't fly in college.
We have two midterms and one final in Introduction to Biology I. One of these midterms is tomorrow. I was told about it a week ago but it's been a very hectic week and I completely forgot about it until just now.
I haven't been to many of the lectures, but they put the slides on the internet so I can get the notes from there, but there are a shitload of them.
I'm taking the course pass/fail just to fill the damn science requirement. What do I do?
Do I stay up until the wee hours of the morning cramming my ass off?
Or should I just play CS:S all night and skim the material right before I go to bed, right before I go to the test, and bomb it because I have the next two to do well on. I'm taking it pass/fail so if I barely pass the course, I still pass.

That is a problem. Cramming can work but it doesn't necessarily mean you know the material and will have to go to study it again at a later time because it will be on both the mid-term and final. Your brain can only work at optimum performance for about an hour. Studying more then 1 hour in a sitting is just wasting your time. Next time you have a test you need to dristrubite your study time through out the week. I am taking a college excellence course this semester and I have learned many useful things to succeed in college and life. If you know the material somewhat I'd suggest studying for an hour. Get up early and study for another 1/2 hour to hour.

You should buy the book "Learning Success" by Wadsworth if this is your first year in college.
A huge tip I can give you is that scimming through books in college will not work for you. If your assigned to read a chapter, reading isn't the only thing your professor expects you to do. When you read a chapter you need to take down notes of key things. Hope this helps. If you want to know more just ask.
ooops I noticed that your actually taking a mid-term exam tomorrow. but even stuff on this exam will be on the final exam. I would study. Try and get to bed early. Look over the material againin the morning and make sure you know it. If you did fairly well on your tests/quizes it shows you know the material that will be on this mid-term. So just relax. If your tense/anxious during a test your not going to remember jack shit.

Another difference between college and H.S. YOU PAY thousands of dollars to be at a college. Not studying and skipping lectuers is like taking your money and setting it on fire. Just some motivation advice.

or your parents money....aaah ooooh the colors, watch it burn!

I am going through school on financial aid. If I F**k up they take it away. That's motivation enough for me. Doing good so far. This is actually the most motivated I've probably ever been in my life. I like college a lot haha.

Well, you're assuming she paid and her parents aren't footing the bill for her to go to college, which makes not studying even worse. However girl did say she's had a hectic week so you can't be too hard on her.
I'd have to agree to put in about 1 hour and get up a little early and hit it hard taking notes on the material. It ALWAYS helped me get through an exam by actually writing down the notes as I reviewed the material the morning of the test.
Good luck!
Damn random beat me to it! You really are a forum whore!
first i'd like to say that in my experience school comes first, maby not high school, i F'd around alot
. you have to make time to do school work, unless someone close to you in your family died i don't think there should be any reason not to do homework, and if you mom or dad dies im sure your prof will let you have a few extra days.

I think you should also remember that for every 1 hour of lecture time you need 2 hours of homework/study time. If work or something else is getting in the way of this you need to find a way to shorten your work load. If your taking 12 credits in a semester then you need to be doing 24 hours of home work in the week. 9 credits....about 18 hours. Dont forget class time. Add the amount of time you'll spend in class with home work and it's about 32-36 hours.

community college. Once my stay here is done I'd like to go onto a bigger/better University/College. I am hoping if I make the grades that the colleges will be asking me to go to their school.

woooohooo i'm a senior in one of the top 10% business schools in the world....I don't think i could've done it without my stash of Aderall (A.D.D. drug). i've had 4 tests in the past 2 weeks, only 1 of which i actually studdied before the day of the test. but i'll be alright i'm only worried about this 13 page paper i have coming up, but it's only 13 pages. oh yeah and until this year i've only had like 2 comprehensive finals so i've lucked out in that area.
