Legal Threats...

Postby ThUnDeR » Sat Nov 12, 2005 8:30 am

Hi All

Here's something interresting I stumbled on a couple of months ago...

It's a list of legal threats from major IT industries to a filesharing website. The catch is that this site is hosted in Sweden and copyright laws are different for bittorents there, so they just post the letters on their site and respond publicly... it's really fun to read!

LOL, regardless of who's right and wrong, I love to see US corporate lawyers told to go a f*&% themselves. These guys sue each other and anyone else at the drop of hat, then find out they are powerless over some scandinavian teen.

Hello and thank you for contacting us. We have shut down the website in
question.

Oh wait, just kidding. We haven't, since the site in question is fully
legal. Unlike certain other countries, such as the one you're in, we have
sane copyright laws here. But we also have polar bears roaming the
streets and attacking people :-(.

I'd love to see the face of those lawyers when they realize US law does NOT apply outside the USA. Until Sweden gets invaded, that is.

They could quote international copyright and patent laws.

They could quote the Bible, The Cat in the Hat, and my 5th grade History book if they think it will help. But if Sweden tells them to go f*** themselves that's pretty much it. One country's laws don't apply in another country.

I pay my software engineers over $25.00 an hour.
It cost to produce software. Shouldn't I expect that not everyone should reap the benefit of that which I pay to have developed?

Don't my employees deserve to make a good living. I can't pay my employees if people take my software without paying for it.

I'm no Microsoft or Adobe, but it boils down to the same principle.

There are alternative to most all commercial software that are free or close to it. If you can't afford the luxuries of corporate software choose an open source or free software.

I assure each and everyone of you that you would think differently if it were your product that was being stolen.

I wish everything was free. I would love a new Lexus but I don't think in ANY country I could just go drive off in one without at least a promise to pay for it. Do you?
