Re: American Army
When I played it they had sopme wierd graphics glitches. WHen I had it they were using an older engine that supposrted the GForce 2 I was using. THe new version I think uses the unreal 2k4 engine. I hope their default keyboard layout is better.Originally posted by ShipWreck

Frankly, I'm surprised that the ECGN community hasn't been all over America's Army considering how long it's been out, how popular it's been, and how good it is. When I first tried it almost a year back, I wasn't that impressed. I just tried it again about 2 months ago and it's great. The built in ranking system and honor system works pretty well, in my opinion... really reduces the number of numbnuts that play. Keep in mind, that doesn't mean NO numbnuts, just fewer than most BF maps I've played on.
Realtime, online global ranking system with stats, pretty good graphics (originally used UT2k3 engine... though Shard mentioned the 2k4 engine, so perhaps it's changed), fast paced, but full of thinking, HUGE amounts of customization once you get far enough along (the ability to mount and unmount different things to your primary rifle before the match), and a system that requires you to test out on certain abilities like First Aid in the field and sniping.
All this wrapped up in a little free bundle. I haven't played it much since the few communities I'm a part of (including this one) aren't into it, so therefore I've never delved too deeply. But, it really IS a good game and definitely worth checking out. Hell, it's free! And yes, I realize it's all simply self-promotion for the US Army (this game was the end result of a recruitment think-tank), but it's cool. You'll actually get to learn some actual US Army tactics, verbiage, and such. There's even a school to learn how to identify different types of vehicles (the diehard players know each vehicle and weapon to the model number... and respect those that do as well... makes sense as one person's "apc" is another person's "BMP"... this puts everyone on the same plane).
