Response to that and the other post u had:
I think that is a good psychological profile of women. So would you say these tendencys are found due to the culture and upbringing or is it just some how in the human wants/needs. Is this found only in American or westernized women? Basically Nature vs. Nurture

BAH!

They're all whores!

On topic, my roommate and I have a theory about this... women don't dress up when they go out so men will notice them so much as to compete with other women. It's a confidence game played versus other women... by showing off a better cleavage or tighter abs, they are instinctively telling other women not to even try to put up a competition.

This is why they fawn all over each other's appearance, do things like dance with their friends to appear more sexy, and spend a lot of time talking about how other women look. But all they want to hear from guys is at most a compliment about something that represents a personal style choice (ie cool earrings or a neat shirt).

PS Nice, but I doubt she can even lift that hammer.

Pudrik, my question still stands, Nature vs. Nurture. And if it is nurture is this just in westernized culture?

Girls whistle and gawk at men just the same as men do the women. If i see a hot construction worker on a roof with no shirt on, i'll watch the beads of sweat roll down him and think of how much i'd love to squeeze his buns and i'll yell nice ass.Who cares guys do it. There have been times i missed a green light due to watching the road crew work and bend over. Nothing sexier than a dirty hard working man. So for a female to complain about a man hitting on her[even the ugly ones]it seems like she is trying to get attention or brag about it. Enjoy it, when your 40 your gonna wonder why they aren't making the comments anymore. Women are just as much horny sluts as men are. No reason to point fingers.

LOL.. You know I seriously typed up a reply very similar to this but thought it would be a little aggressive so I deleted it. Back when I was in good shape I used to get catcalls and whistles from women all the time - even got groped a few times. I had a serious honest to god six-pack belly and some decent arms with very little body fat. :) Now I don't though.. That body is long gone and with it have gone the appreciative whistles from women. Such is life..

See, you would think it would be a compliment to have men do that. But I see them saying the same crude comments and catcalls to some reeeally unattractive honest to god UGLY women too.

Women feel like they must dress up in provacative ways to have men notice them. Look at movies, TV.. look at magazines and catalogues. We are supposed to compete with Victoria's Secret models? Noo wayy..

But the same goes for men too. Look at the men on TV, in movies... etc etc. It's a neverending cycle of people trying to be what they can't be. :P

Ugly to you. Maybe they find them attractive. I don't judge people on looks and yeah, i know..only ugly people say that, but i don't think i'm ugly. Maybe it's the way she carried herself or the way she smiled. Maybe they are so hard up it's the only attention they can get. I don't know, but women are just as bad.

To address this, and what ferret asked, I would venture that at it's base it's biological. Competition for a mate is common to all animals, humans included. It is only natural to try to one up those around us.

How we compete, though, is certainly affected by cultural influences. A common example is tanned skin. In the past, creamy white skin was a sign of affluence and leisure, and thus beauty. Tanned skin meant you had to work outside. Now, tanned skin is a sign of health and vigor, attached to the image of outdoor recreation. Fair white skin is not considered as attractive anymore.

If you look at renaissance paintings and statues, the attractive female form was clearly of a much fuller figure in that time.

But while the outward appearances that are considered attractive may change, the underlying reason is probably the same... so there are certain factors which are constant throughout time. Symmetry (a sign of health), a 7/10 waist-hip ratio on women (closely correlates with fertility), any outward signs of wealth., and height for men (ability to protect/social status).

As for women, I would argue that it's not just a western phenomenon that women make every effort to appear like they are still teenagers (minimal body hair, unblemished skin, firm chests). For example, the Japanese certainly seem to have an unhealthy fascination with school girls.

Also perhaps why men have always been able to get away with having a little extra belly fat, as it has always been a sign of being a good provider. That looks like it's changing though (see B's comments), because nowadays in a America, it is the wealthy who can afford the time and trouble to stay thin, and the poor who are mostly overweight.

Back on topic: The closest I've ever come to cat-calling was my former rooommate honking at female pedestrians from his jeep. He usually got an appreciative smile in return. It's clearly a cultural thing, and both men and women have different levels of comfort with overtly communicated attraction. From both sides, some do, some don't.

I dont think women are as bad as men in the cat-calling department... but I think that us women have our own ways of making men (and people in general) feel just as inferior and disrespected as the women who are victims of catcalls.

Same outcome, different means.
