Brokeback Mountain
An AMAZING, powerful, and dramatic movie. At the moment, I think it's only playing in NYC and LA, so if you're near one of those cities, you should go see it. It's being released everywhere else in a couple weeks. I never knew Michelle Williams could actually ACT! I remember her from silly movies like Halloween H2O and Dick. When it comes out near you if it hasn't already, run, do not walk, run, to the theater and see it.

Not that I'm a homophobe or anything but as I don't have the reassurance of a female presence to go see that movie in a theater with.. uh.. I'll pass. It's just that the subject matter seems to be the kind of stuff women would prefer over men. Of course I'm sticking my foot straight into my mouth because I haven't seen the movie. I've only seen like one trailer and read an article or two. Still that is the impression I got.
MAYBE (a HUGE maybe) I'll see it on DVD.

It funny how Cartman from 'South Park' complained that all the movies at those big film festivals were just movies about a bunch of gay cowboys sitting around and eating pudding. That was a couple of years ago, now we have Brokeback Mountain
I have to echo Allah's sentiment, not a homophobe, but the subject matter just doesn't jump out at me as something I'd plunk my $8.50 down for. Then again I said the same thing about 'Chasing Amy' and I wound up really liking that movie.

8.50? Sheesh. Most movie theaters around here are at 10 or 10.50 unless you go to a matinee.

"No dude, independent films are those black and white hippie movies. They're always about gay cowboys eating pudding."
Yeah - I'll be skipping this one. There are very few films I want to see, let alone in the theater. Gay cowboy flicks with tons of explicit 'action' mano y mano? This one is on the list of "Never" along with Syriana, Rent and that snowboarding one.
BTW - When I first saw the opening of the Rent trailer I thought it was for a cell phone company and changed the channel. I wasn't paying attention - hell I don't even watch commercials that often thanks to Tivo - and I I heard was something about minutes... and someone was walking down a street. Musicals suck so hard.

I used to think the same thing.. Must have gotten softer in my 'old' age. I have to admit that I like a few musicals. Moulin Rouge and Chicago spring instantly to mind. Again.. it does help to have a female presence while watching them.

My wife hates musicals as much as I do. Some of her favorite films are Jaws, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and LOTR: Two Towers.
Even being an animator/animation fan I can't even stand Disney's works that are musicals. I can tolerate them slightly more than, say... Rocky Horror Picture Show, which I flat out hate. That film needs to be buried.
