WMA to MP3

Postby -HaVoC- » Thu Dec 15, 2005 4:22 pm

I am looking for a method to convert a few WMA files to MP3's. Any thoughts?

try burning it to a blank CD, then ripping from the CD on to your hard drive using Windows Media Player. In options, there is a choice on what format you want to rip it in. Just use the drop down menu for mp3.
(I think you need 3rd party software upgrade to use this mp3 option though).

Edit: you may not need 3rd party software. I remember a while ago i had to download and pay 9.99 or something lke that to access the mp3 option. But it has been a while. I think newer versions of WM player might already come with it installed. I just checked my player at work and it has the mp3 option for ripping.

You can do it through itunes if you have that. Click advanced and there is an option to do it.

Well thanks for the input guys. These originally came from a cd I bought that requires keys to listen to on a pc in an attempt to protect the music from being ripped. I found the tracks on the disc as WMA's and feel no guilt because I bought it and I am not sharing it.

The burning and the ripping would work but it adds an extra degeneration to the music. Itunes and the rest sound like good options but they're a wee bit overpriced at this point.

I had used Cdex up until recently and it doesn't seem to be working for this particular conversion. I will dl'd and give the free app a try. I have been trying to actually buy the cd's of bands that I really enjoy instead of taking it for free, but that's a whole other topic :D

Thanks again :D

It's your duty to buy it again of course. In tape/cd/enhanced-cd/dvd-a/mp3/whatevers next form.
That is of course the master plan.

Since theres a few of you iTune dudes here let me ask..... When i try to burn a MP3 disk... it never lets me so i have to burn the standard 15 song disk......

So my question is, since i spent a week putting ALL my CD's on itunes, is there some FREE software that will allow me to convert from iTunes to possible windows media??

Prob is, if you ripped the CDs into AAC, you can't make an mp3 cd. For whatever F'd up reason, i Tunes lets you convert mp3 to AAC, but not the other way around. You may try using the program above to convert all your songs to mp3. Then delete the AACs, and add the mp3s to your itunes library without converting them. After that you should be able to make mp3 cds. Be aware you can't make mp3 cds from purchased AAC songs, as well, although you can make regualr cds.
