Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

On gifts, for the reasons above, I decided a while ago when I have kids, I won't ask them for list for Christmas, but instead, tell them to put a lot of thought into what they should give their siblings, mom, etc. "What would your brother really love?" and so on. That should be the spirit, as far as gifts are concerned.

On the holiday, I was raised Catholic, too, although now I consider myself, um, undetermined. But you have to love the spirit of the season, religious or not. Family, good will towards men, all that.

On displays, and those silly "satanists" You know, all they had to do was let them do it for a couple years, and the joke would get tired. I'm sure those guys hung up dead rabbits not because they actually had a spiritual rabbit sacrfice that happened to coincide, but just to stick it to all those silly religious types. If people could just shake their heads, and move on, these jokers wouldn't get the rise they sought out of everyone.

I certainly do, and IM ONLY 16!!!! Hateing christmas is what you do when your a grumpy upper middle aged man.

Basically if you get all excited it all ends up as a big anti-climax, basically the only good part is opening the presents then after that, its nothing speacial? You have to eat a meal, which if its so good, why don't you eat it more often? Then you have spend all day with the people you only see once a year, because you don't like them. 66% of familys in the UK end up in a big fight because the food makes you as prone to mood swings as a pregnant woman. Theres always some s*** film on TV.

I suppose the only good thing is thats its an excuse to get drunk.

People should treat each other with love and respect every day. If people feel they need to treat others well because "it's the holidays" seems to inply they give something less the rest of the year.

You must have missed my other post about this.

It'd be nice if this is something everyone can do all year 'round. But, it just doesn't happen. So, I'd rather have a few days during one holiday with everyone spreading cheer and the rest of the time they're asses, than to have those people continue to be asses through the holidays and never spread any cheer.

It would be a perfect world if everyone did this every day of their lives, but reality has proven that it just doesn't happen. I'll take at least a few days of it over nothing anytime.

If people acted nice all year round, then xmas wouldn't be special. So remember, if you want Xmas to be special, act like a dick all year round!

i was too lazy to read the entire thread, but personally i love christmas. Even though i'm Athiest i just get happier around the season. it's not the presents or the family or anything, not quite sure what it is, maybe just the general aura. i also like watching the other idiots shopping....they can be pretty amusing at times. favorite christmas moment? uh....idk, getting wasted with my pa i suppose. Also i couldn't care less whether stores said happy holidays or merry christmas, it's all just an expression for one to remain happy and joyful.

One of best memories ever, ironically I was alone and it was Xmas eve in 1984 (I was 15). I was at my Grandparents house. We were really celebrating that year, many of the relatives had all stopped over at one point or another that day. Decorations everywhere, all sorts of party type foods, alchohol, etc. My Grandparents house is right acrossed the street from a big church (which happens to be church my family attended). It was early in the evening, everyone was out at other relatives houses and then going to Christmas Mass at midnight, except me 'cuz I wasn't into it. I was wrapping gifts, drinking some booze. I had snuck around earlier and confirmed that I was getting a Commodore 64 for Xmas! MTV was running Band Aid 'Feed the World' non-stop. Something about it all was just perfect. I can't quite convey it with words. It was just perfect contentment. Alone, wrapping gifts, a slight buzz on, "Feed the World" playing in the background. Somehow everything in the world was just perfect. I wish I could just freeze that moment forever.
