Nice looking new Macs today

Postby cavalierlwt » Tue Jan 10, 2006 3:23 pm

They've replaced Powerbook with MacBook Pro (I know, stupid name) come with iSight, Front Row; 1.67 Core Duo; 667 DDR bus, Radeon x1600 for $1999 ;
1.83GHz. Intel proc for $2499

Nice notebook.
Same setup for the new iMac, also, I noticed they mentioned PCI-Express for the video card, which bodes well for PowerMacs (whatever they call it when they come out). You may not be able to pick any version of the newest high end video card, but I think you'll be able to pick from at least one or two versions of each high end video card as they come out since it's standard PCI-Express. Sort of like the way you have to choosy about memory.
Anyhow, interesting times ahead for Apple!

Mac shmack. They could have supercomputers and it's all for naught because all the applications (games) I care about are on PC/Windows. They are niche computers and are likely to stay that way for a long time yet. I am no fan of Microsoft btw, far from it. I am however addicted to gaming and that's the gaming platform.

I think I'll always have PC for gaming, but I'm really becoming fond of OSX.
Besides, now that Macs are using Intel, you'll be able to run WinXP --unsupported. But since Macs are built with very specific chipsets and components, it will be a piece of cake for people to get Win XP running well on Apple hardware. You'll still get that last 2-3% of performance running straight out windows hardware though.
I miss my Mac Mini :(
I loaned it to my sister because she has been doing a lot of multimedia presentations at work, and I don't think I'll ever see it again.
